Well of course, that much is true. But in my experience, usually in games like this that offer this option, have their multiplayer function not very well thought out so it ends up being more of a novelty where the fun runs out pretty quick if one of the players isnt up to par and can't handle the challenge which brings the experience down.

Its pretty telling that it's usually an afterthought when not even all the FF games after IV, where it looks like it was introduced, even have them at all. It even more telling when most people don't even know the feature exists whenever and even bringing it up seems to be rare.

Either the player by themselves are good enough to not need a second player helping them or one of them kinda suck and brings them both down.

i don't think it's really about needing a second player, as much as it is about wanting to play it together with someone
