No you dunno what self-deprecating is otherwise you'd understand this topic is a very light-hearted joke with me making fun of myself for laughs but you and some of the people like you took it very seriously.

however from those experiences I also know what to expect from this board.

It's weird though that someone would lie in a way that makes them seem pathetic/unlikeable. Usually when people lie/make stuff up it's to inflate their ego and make themselves seem better than they really are. All this does it makes the average person think he was far more toxic than her previous boyfriends.

I have always been a big saver my whole life and very financially responsible but as I have gotten older I seem to pinch my pennies more and more. I go very long stretches where the only thing I spend money on in a given month is required monthly bills. Stuff like utilities (electronic/gas), city water/garbage bill, cable tv/internet/phone (I consider this is a required household bill though technically you could eliminate it but its my main source of entertainment) food, and gas for my truck. When I say food I mean grocery store. I don't eat out. Due to some digestion/health stuff it became too problematic to trust ingredients not from my house. I gave up eating out in 2017 and make everything from home. So my food bill is fairly low cost in reality. Sure store prices have climbed but buying for cooking is so much cheaper than eating out so I save a lot there too.

My house insurance and property taxes are paid once a year so they aren't technically paid every month but they are in fact a hidden monthly cost. That is it. That is all my bills. My house is paid for and my truck is paid for. I have no debt. I live in the Midwest so I live very cheaply and saved the majority of my check that I get once a month. I make good money and don't need to be this frugal, I just am.

Last year in the entire year I bought a video game in March in a sale and I bought 4 books in the Fall. I spent like $75 the entire year outside required bills. I just made my first purchase this year outside required bills. I spent $69.35

I'm a huge home theatre junkie. I'm not always cheap. When it comes to this hobby I have spent an eye opening amount of money on audio and video in my life. Like when I do a speaker upgrade it will be tens of thousands of dollars. Anyway that isn't the point of this topic. The main point is I'm really into movies/tv/games. I vastly prefer physical media over streaming. It is just such a better quality. But I also know the writing is on the wall with physical media. Gaming has already had a massive shift and movies are now disappearing from store shelves more and more each day.

I don't need to necessarily collect every single movie. That isn't my point. But I did want to snag some 4K versions of some of my most favorite things before they become hard to buy online since stores aren't really going to be carrying them much longer at all. So I did a couple very small purchases.

My favorite genre is westerns. I'm a huge Clint Eastwood fan and I won't go through his whole resume but he has made some absolute classics. I only own the DVD of Unforgiven and never upgraded to blu-ray. The 4K review on Unforgiven is really really good and since I don't own it on blu-ray this became a no brainer. The review said Clint had specific instructions for this print and he and his team reviewed everything before approving. A lot of care went into this one. Tossed that in the cart for like $21. As it was in the cart I saw Amazon do the "this + this for x amount" and saw Once Upon a Time in the West 4K.

I was like 'whaaaaaa?" Literally one of my all time favorites. I honestly think it is Sergio Leone's best western even though he is mostly known for the Dollars Trilogy with Clint and of course the iconic The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly. I like Once Upon a Time in the West even better. it has that amazing Ennio Morricone soundtrack, it has Charles Bronson (a favorite of mine) and Henry Fonda who is one of my favorite actors ever and he actually gets to play a bad guy. Brilliant movie. Anyway I see this just released this on 4K like a few weeks ago. This is a no brainer even though I already have a blu-ray.

The review had some mixed opinions but overall it was the best it had ever looked and was made from an updated scan so the included blu-ray is even improved. I already have a blu-ray movie of this but to me the upgrade sounds worth it. For $30 sure, I gotta have it. Then the final purchase tonight was a blu-ray of The Outlaw Josey Wales which runs neck and neck with Unforgiven in having some of my favorite shit talking dialogue scenes. An absolute classic from the year of my birth 1976.

I only have this movie on DVD and from everything I can find there is no plans of releasing a 4K. If it happens I can always just pick that up later. Sure I will be tossing away a little money but I'm ok with that. Besides the blu-ray on this movie is glowing. It is absolutely one of the most positive reviews about the picture quality and it is simply the best it has ever looked and looks quite good.

It's also worth pointing out that while I'm a home theatre junkie and I care about calibration and accuracy and all that I'm not a snob when it comes to quality. Like I watch westerns from the 50's that look quite poor and I'm ok with it. I watch a lot of old movies that look so so and I'm fine with it. Honestly my blu-ray copy of Pale Rider is often criticized quite a bit and very very average across the board. Doesn't stop me from enjoying and flat out loving those movies. With that being said I'm happy to hear the overwhelming positive comments about picture quality in the review for Outlaw Josey Wales. So for $15 I had to throw that in.

So yeah $69.35 later and I'm very happy about these 3 purchases. I have more movies I want to add later but for now that it is. I know one I'm going to get is going to be like $60 by itself. It is a blu-ray of Old Yeller and it was only ever released to members of the Disney Movie Club. But I can get it through a reliable 3rd party seller on Amazon. I normally avoid 3rd party but this looks legit and I have no other option. The review is solid and I need this 1957 classic in my collection. Unlike my other movies I have ordered that I have seen many many times recently from rewatching I haven't watched Old Yeller in probably like 30 to 35 years. Not since high school. I never see it on tv.

Anyway I rarely make topics and wanted to talk about my hobby and my purchases that excited me. Looking forward to them.
