But for me, some people cannot be "redeemd". Some people are just horribly, and beyond redemption. Some people are literally too dangerous to contain. In that case, killing them may be an unfortuante only option. Maybe there isn't any justifaciton in taking a life, but there are motives.
If you honestly feel that this man can be a valued and contributing person to society, that's quite the high amount of faith you hold in humanity. Can this man do anything to make up for the lives that he unjustly took? Perhaps for some people, death is the only option.
I'm all for forgiveness, it's what God would want(Something I happen to believe in), but vengence is a base instinct in all our hearts... Some people truly are so horrible that their mere existance brings up the worse in other people.
So there really isn't a clear answer, is there? I'm sure there's an answer we all honestly and truly beleive in but...

Oh that's nothing compared to the torture I'd have in mind for him if I was immoral enough to go through with it. But yeah... jail isn't really torture.

I think you misunderstand how people think around here. None of the families want him to get executed. The mentality most people have in Norway is that execution is the "easy way out" for a murderer, and a very empty revenge for the offended parties which only serves to create more murderers.
So culture difference then.

Personally if I wasn't going to kill him, I'd just lock him up in a small dark room for the rest of his days. Give him plenty of time to reflect on his actions.

But yeah, there's pretty much no valid reason why that man still draws breath. Some people just have to die for the sake of everyone else. Some crimes aren't forgivable, and what he did falls under that.

Ok, Gerbil once ordered our Chinese and just said wontons when he meant "cheesy fried wontons" and we got wonton soup instead. It's very easy to do, esp. if multitasking.
Shouldn't you have confirmed what kind of wonton he wanted? Unless of course there was only one type of wonton you sold...

This weekend I stayed in a hotel in NJ, and the cleaning staffed knocked on my door because they wanted to see if they could clean my room. It was 2 hours before checkout, I wasn't ready, I was watching my baby, and my wife was in the shower. I thought it was extremely rude and lazy so I didn't leave them a tip, just a note. Maybe I didn't get to dictate what my service was, but I got to dictate what service I paid for. Or what I'd pay for that service - same thing, to me.
Perhaps I'm missing something, but I don't see a huge problem with that. Or how it's "rude and lazy". They just want to get the room cleaned, all you had to say is "not yet" or something to that degree.

If employers raised waitstaff wages to be comparable to what they earn with tips (which is usually MORE than the normal minimum wage; eliminating tips and raising wages just to the non-tip minimum would screw over the employees), then you'd just get charged that much more for your food. More than that much more really, since owners aren't going to raise prices and not take a cut for themselves.
So you can either have a $10 pizza and tip $3, or have a $15 pizza. Tipping works out better for everyone but social maladjusts who can't handle the concept of tips.
Ican't quite put my finger on it, but something is wrong here. =/

it's a secondary offense in virginia which is f***ing awesome. i could be in front of a platoon of cops without my seatbelt on while texting while driving in the rain without my lights on and they wouldnt be able to do anything about it

Do you give a tip for the shop emploee that sold you something? To the doctor that checked you? To the old man that gave you newspaper? To the mailman? To the tech support of your ISP?
No? you don't? why? don't they "serve" you? How are pizza delievry guys and waitresses are so different? Why do they need tip? why do they get tip? They are nothing special,they get their own money and they don't need extra money just because it's "socially accepted"
I mostly agree with you, but pizza delivery guys and waitresses are different because they get paid less than minimum wage(Well I'm not sure about pizza delivery).
Still, instead of tipping I say we should make it so those two jobs actually pay respectably. To me tipping should only be done if the job was done in an exceptional manner, not just adequate.

I've been in 12 car accidents (I was only the driver for three of them, and the cops were able to see that none were my fault), no seat belt in a single one of them, and I've never even gotten a scratch. Seat belts are overrated and the government having the military do seat belt checks is martial law through and through.
That's fortunate for you, but it's a poor justification for not wearing seatbelts. Now I agree that it would be better if they wern't so strict when it comes to seatbelts, but it didn't come out of nowhere.
But yeah, how severe were these accidents? Because while seatbelts aren't strictly mandatory in all cases, they sure as heck reduce death rate in some cases.
