B8 is pretty laughable on the whole alpha/beta thing. It's one thing to parrot about it on B8 but when Other M comes out and the mainstream gets a hold of it and decries its awful misogyny, they pretty much have to play along or risk looking like fools.

I guess peer pressure is one potential explanation but I think the whole alpha thing is foolish and anti-social to begin with, it reeks of basement dwelling nerdrage. Baww no one likes me, it must be because girls only like JERKS.

The actual gameplay of most MK games is terrible, but the series has more of a mythos than any other fighting game I can think of. MK3 was also a ton of fun even if broken as all hell.

I'm not a big fan of Corruption but I'd hardly say it sucked, I think Metroid has been pretty consistent. It's unfortunate that Other M was received so poorly, Nintendo is probably going to shelf the series for a long time like they're doing with Star Fox and F-Zero D:

I also don't think this is a bad thing. Just because people aren't elevated to mythical status in music anymore doesn't actually degrade the quality of music. People just get confused because they equate the best music only with people who are legendary. You have to listen to a lot more music than that before you gain any real perspective.

Of course, this is why I asked who actually listens to Bach or Beethoven on a regular basis. These composers are treated as godlike by people that would almost never actually listen to them, it's disgusting. Music needs -less- of that kind of illogical mysticism, not more.

The gameplay is quite good! People who bash Other M tend to do so on the grounds that it takes a dump on their preconceptions of what Samus was supposed to be. Samus was previously regarded as probably the most important feminist icon in the gaming industry, it had nothing to do with the actual game but peoples interpretations of a character who nearly never uttered a word...

There will probably never be mythical composers like Bach or Beethoven again because making music is so much more accessible now and there is so much more variety out there. These are people synonymous with the time periods they lived in, the beatles were probably the last music act that will ever be able to claim that kind of status.

There's definitely worse than gaga but she'll still be forgotten as all fads are, she doesn't have a good voice and there's nothing particularly great about her music. If anything as someone who is mostly popular for fashion she's a perfect example of what is wrong with the music industry today.

And I think a lot of composers are better than Bach but then I've never put things on a pedestal just for being old so I don't expect a whole lot of people to agree with me there...how many of you frequently listen to Bach though? I think it's kind of ridiculous how ancient composers are culturally unassailable even though few people listen to them.

Ok it looks ugly and overly simple by virtue of its design, a cartoon based game isn't going to have as good of shading as other styles so you need more going on to please the eye, but it's still bland.

Getting back on topic, how do you say Wind Waker has amazing atmosphere when it has the worst visuals of any of the 3D Zelda titles and the second worst soundtrack? Aside from the ending the entire game just feels so uninspired and bland.

The only thing I find great about Brawl is how much you can modify it...which you can only do because the Wii is easier to hack than the GC was, it has nothing to do with the actual game. I hope Nintendo adds that kind of customization into the stock game for Smash 4 but I highly doubt it.

The NoE guy I do understand though seeing as he obviously broke his non-disclosure agreement...several times. Though while I understand the forced retirement there, it makes me think even worse of Nintendo that they wanted to sweep the game under the rug without ever actually telling us that it had been canned.

It's just the N64 era I find especially overrated - for me, Super Mario 64 and StarCraft are the only things in the 10/10 league from that timeframe.

I don't get into numerical ratings but OoT, MM, Final Fantasy VII, Final Fantasy Tactics, Metal Gear Solid, Chrono Cross, and Perfect Dark are better IMO. SM64 is more overrated than OoT or FFVII could ever hope to be, in spite of those games being much more well loved.

Wind Waker is a respectable game, I just find it subpar for Zelda. It beats most of what other developers are making but it has the unfortunate burden of being sandwiched inbetween Majora's Mask and Twilight Princess....or being at the exact center of OoT-SS, and SS is looking like it might finally be the Zelda that tops OoT too.
