It's amazing and hilariously predictable how liberals will never just admit that maybe their position is not popular. It always has to be that the Republicans cheated, or that the electorate was deceived into voting a certain way.

I doubt I'm going to get more than a "DAMAGE CONTROL XFD" response to this, but... this doesn't contradict with some of the reasons you listed. People who give these reasons don't deny the liberal position is unpopular, they're saying the position is unpopular because the electorate was deceived into thinking conservatism is superior to liberalism or whatever.

I'm also glad that someone else appreciates Pretzel Logic; sometimes, I feel like I'm the only Steely Dan fan here.

Hardly! On that note, Aja is... well, it's in the top 150, fair enough. But yeah, I feel like Steely Dan is a band everyone has heard of but people don't praise nearly enough.

Why do we need more than one Santana album? Every guitar solo is the same!

I'll pretend I didn't read that.

WTF at The Bends being so high, that album, like Hail to the Thief, is in the "OK - good" range. At least they correctly named Kid A the #1 Radiohead album.

Trout Mask being so high was expected, but still nice to see.

Don't expect many surprises in the top 50.

You're comparing the Beatles to a genre?

I meant various metal bands are more popular here than The Beatles.

I'm sure any one metal band wouldn't have as high a fanbase as the beatles do.

On this site, definitely. 235 is the most popular music board here for a reason.

Non-cookie cutter jazz album sighting. Nice choice.

As far as jazz goes, I wonder if we're going to see anything less cookie-cutter than Sketches.

Also, seeing Miles Davis on the list is kinda random. If they're going to bother representing different genres all of a sudden, where's, say, classical music?

Of course influence is going to be a factor in a list like this. Why would it not be. Influence of a piece of art is directly correlated with the lasting appeal of that piece of art, and the popularity. Arguments like these make no sense.

There's nothing necessarily wrong with considering influence, but it makes me wonder what this is list is supposed to be. Are we looking at the best albums ever, or the albums that were both the best and both somewhat influential?

Also, if influence is such an important factor, stuff like Radiohead and Arcade Fire should be way higher. And Kraftwerk - they basically invented the sound of the music that became very popular in the 80s.

And Frank Zappa influenced tons of bands and artists beside The Beatles (including Jimi Hendrix, to name one other example). His stuff should be way higher than it's inevitably going to be.
