(1)Tyrion Lannister - Both of these guys belong in the final four, although it's not really close between them. Tyrion is on another tier, along with Arya, they should have faced each other in the finals.

(2)Arya Stark - Sorry, Sandor and Jaime just don't belong here. Neither of them is in the same league as Arya and Tyrion.

Well, I halfway agree with you. TNG had a better main cast. But DS9 had a really awesome secondary cast, that might be the single best thing about the show. One of the flaws of TNG was that it was really prone to having a guest star of the week who was never seen again. Some of them could have made interesting minor characters if they'd brought them back.

I have a hard time even thinking of recurring characters on TNG who were relevant to the plot. There was Q, Ensign Ro, Lwaxana, O'Brien, Guinan, Barclay... okay, I guess there were a few, but for the most part they weren't that great or that memorable (or that important to the overall plot). On the other hand, try to imagine DS9 without someone like Dukat or Garak, it wouldn't even be the same show.

The seventh season had a few really awful episodes, it was when they finally just began to run out of ideas. It was good the show ended when it did.

... In fact, it should have stayed ended. Make First Contact, and none of the other TNG movies, and the show is nearly perfect (damn you Pulawski).

Nemesis was alright. But what they really needed was a movie featuring Q.

From: IngmarBirdman | #020
Yeah Sub Rosa is down there with the one where Riker is incapacitated and most of the episode is just footage of his from previous episodes.

What episode is that? I don't remember that one at all.

SUB ROSA laughs at your tier lists; such primitive constructs cannot hope to encapsulate its greatness.

Sub Rosa is so incredibly bad. It seems like it should have been made in the first season instead of the seventh.

Thanks. Like I said, Rascals is kinda bad, but it also has some really really great scenes. It's hit or miss.

I disliked the DS9 finale actually. I've only seen it once though, never watched it again after it first aired. The main thing I remember is that it included a montage of previous episode clips for each one of the the main characters, which I thought was pretty bad.

Fine, here are my second tier of episodes (in no particular order):
Redemption
Gambit
The Lower Decks (introduced characters that I cared more about in one hour than the casts of entire Star Trek shows)
Thine Own Self
Frame of Mind (awesomely creepy and surreal)
Cause and Effect
The Neutral Zone (the first episode that really showed what the series had the capability of becoming)
Rascals (was bad in some ways, but had some of the best scenes of the entire series - the feremantle drive scene and the "number 1 dad" scene)
Q Who
Tapestry
The Measure of a Man
The Drumhead
Data's Day
The Defector

Guess that's all I'm remembering at the moment among the ones I really liked.

All Good Things is such a great finale. And the show overall is still my favorite show ever.

I can't really pick a single best episode but here's my top tier:

The Inner Light
Chain of Command
All Good Things
The Best of Both Worlds
Yesterday's Enterprise

There are too many great episodes to name, though. Well, I could probably name most of them but it would take a while. :)

I expect that Sandor will ultimately end up being more interesting, but right now I feel he's one of the most overrated characters in the series. I understand that that is an unpopular opinion, so I understand the criticism there.

I wasn't referring to Sandor, I don't really care who wins that match. It's Arya losing to anyone short of Tyrion that's a travesty.

I mean, it's mostly just drawing stuff from what he's said over the last 5 years. How he had it all figured out for a 3 book series or whatever and it grew in the telling, his using-then-abandoning of the timejump, all of his trouble with needing to get people where they needed to be... almost all the reasons he gave for why Dance was taking so long should NOT apply to Winds.

I've heard him say most of those things, just not the part about having the last two books all figured out, or that it was the stuff he wanted to do from the beginning.

So... on the bright side, he has gotten through the "middle books" and he is now getting down to the stuff he's wanted to do and which he has had figured out from the beginning. Feast/Dance were books he never meant to write. "Winds of Winter" and "Dream of Spring" are what he started the entire series to get to and which he has been building towards all along. So... he should be more motivated and have this planned out better.

Hmm, where'd you hear that part? I hope that makes it go more quickly but I'm not going to hold my breath.

No chapter at the end of the hardcovers. There might be one at the end of the paperback when it comes out. I think he's read some samples at appearances he's had. But basically, no one knows how long it'll take, including GRRM. The guy takes on way too many non-soiaf projects and he's slow in general, so I assume it'll be another 5 years if we get it at all.

His lines are fantastic for one. I love his sense of humor, which he's "technically" not supposed to have.

If you want good lines, his opponent Arya easily dominates the field (except maybe Tyrion). Like the comment you quoted about "he's welcome to try" to hurt him seems like pretty generic tough guy talk... it earns him a few badassery points but I definitely wouldn't consider it anything special. Plenty of people in other stories have used the exact same line. On the other hand, I've never heard of anything like Arya's litany before, and I get chills when I read it.

Stannis is pretty easy to sum up, he's basically honorable but unbending and sees everything in black and white. If he were a POV character it might be interesting to see him try to negotiate a complex situation with his inadequate worldview. But as a non-POV character he basically comes across as static and predictable. Arya is way more dynamic and complex, which makes her more interesting to read about. The stuff where she travels with the Hound is some of the best material in the whole series because of the way their relationship develops, and the similarities between them.

(1)Tyrion Lannister - Tyrion's way more interesting than his wife, and less annoying as well.

(1)Jon Snow - Jon can be a little bland sometimes but he's pretty good overall, probably the closest the series has to a traditional protagonist (after Ned). Theon... well, based just on the books I pretty much hated him. ADWD and the show have made me more sympathetic to him than I was before, but he's still not in Jon's league.

that seems like a cool thing, Kax, but I'll be in summer classes by June. I have about a 2 and a half week period (starting next week) to work on this and that's all the time I'll really have, so that's when I need to do it.

Cool, well, I'll be interested to see what you produce. What technology are you using to create this thing?

Just watched the video, good progress so far. I didn't realize you were doing a vertical scrolling shmup, but it looks good. My plan is to do a Metroidvania style game for my project (which Liquid already signed on to do music for :))

Azor Ahai, dude who tried three times to forge a magic sword, the first two times it broke, finally he quenched the sword by stabbing his wife with it and killing her.

"It is written in prophecy as well. When the red star bleeds and the darkness gathers, Azor Ahai shall be born again amidst smoke and salt to wake dragons out of stone."

Seems pretty obvious it's supposed to Daenerys, although Martin could be tricking us of course. She was born on Dragonstone, she hatched dragons out of stone, trying three times and sacrificing her husband on the final try to do it.

Yeah, Stannis's "Lightbringer" is obviously fake - it was cool how easily Maester Aemon saw through it. But as the readers we already know who Azor Ahai reborn (probably) is - we saw the replay of his story happen to one of the characters in book 1.

(3)Stannis Baratheon - Arya's one of my favourite characters and I have no problem with her winning this, but Stannis is a tremendous character too, so hard to do well and yet done SO well, so I'm throwing him a pity vote.

I'm curious what you think is hard to do about Stannis, or done so well. Personally I see him as pretty bland and not that interesting. Meanwhile I'll freely admit that Arya's archetype is probably pretty easy to do, but she is done amazingly well. Far and away my favorite character in the series.
