Now I don't normally post in these topics.

But what on earth is the point of spoiler tagging a youtube link.

The people who want to listen it will click the link, those who don't want to listen to it won't. Plus the song itself isn't a spoiler at all, it contains some background information but nothing major or important, and the only reason I can think that people would have not to listen is if they want to save it for being in the episode itself. Do watch out for the comments though.

Also, the song is awesome.

That doesn't tell the whole story about 38 - they wanted to make a game and then a sequel that would be a MMO, launching from the success of the first game. That was their plan and the direction they poured a lot of resources into. Hopefully the glaring issue is obvious here!

Oh this is true.

Which is another problem with game development, constantly scrapping what you've made and effectively wasting millions of dollars. For instance, I wonder how much Metal Gear Rising cost to develop before it was cancelled years later. Probably a lot. And then there are issues such as developing demos that don't make it into the game just so you have something for trade shows... The whole system is just a mess. So many wasted resources. Honestly I'd like to see just how much money has been wasted on plans that never were.

The fact that a game can sell 1.2 million copies and still be considered a massive bomb really highlights what is wrong with the video game industry these days.

Booming production costs+static/falling sales=commercial failure.

Really, releasing a new IP, untested and not the world's greatest game, and expecting it to pull numbers like 3 million? That's crazy. Though I can't say it's surprising.

This sucks. A year ago I never thought I would ever have to deal with this s*** ever again. Whatever. I hate being single, I'm not good at it. I wish it was easier to just skip right into a relationship because that's what I am good at.

I'm not gonna lie. This is a legit problem and something you need to sort out rather than just attempting to ignore by jumping into a relationship. I've always been of the opinion that people need to be strong enough to live independently before jumping into a relationship. Don't be codependent, it only leads to more mistakes, and more pain when things don't work out. And seriously dude, I know you have problems with depression and whatnot, but it's something you actually need to try and deal with (through counselling or whatever) rather than just live with. Trust me, I'm speaking through both personal experience and experience in dealing with people in the same situation. You'll be happier if you try and take care of things.

Anyway, if she's into Harry Potter, compare her to Luna Lovegood. Not kidding, girls love that.

Clapping is just a way of expressing your enjoyment. Not something I'd do, but nothing wrong with it, even when the people responsible aren't there.

Mind you, The Avengers is the type of film best enjoyed with a large, loud audience. It's a great film, but certain parts were enhanced by the audience reactions. No clapping, but lots of laughs and cheers. One moment in particular was the loudest I've ever heard a cinema, and I wouldn't have it any other way. Anybody who's seen the film probably knows which bit I mean.

I was expecting it to top the opening weekend charts, but not like this. It didn't break the record, it obliterated it. And frankly there's no way TDKR can top this. It might not even beat TDK. Even if it does beat TDK and Potter, can it do it by $30 million? No way, not without 3D, and even with it, I doubt it would happen. No Joker, No Ledger, the word of mouth hype probably won't be as huge...

I think we shouldn't compare TDKR to The Avengers, we should compare it to TDK. And even with inflation it'll be interesting to see if it tops it. TDK was a one-of-a-kind sensation that's going to be hard to beat, especially when your only virtue is "being Batman".

I don't think Phoenix Wright is that niche. No more than a lot of the other games on that list. Symphony of the Night, for instance, wasn't exactly a commercial smash. And while that is certainly an important game within its own series, Phoenix Wright is a big reason why adventure games made a comeback this gen. Plus handhelds needed more representation anyway.

But otherwise really good list. Not sure about the most recent picks though. A lot of people would argue that 2D and 3D Mario are separate franchises-Mario itself is more of a mega-franchise consisting of lots of separate franchises (2D, 3D, Kart, RPGs, etc.) which are all their own entities. So SM64 would have been a good placement I feel, especially since it pretty much made 3D gaming viable.

Please explain this to me, because I really don't understand it. How do a couple N64 upgrades and Super Mario 3D Land appeal to the "hardcore"? And how is the 3DS software anything other than extremely lackluster?

Talking about the launch window there. Besides, the 3DS's library is great for just one year on the market. I don't want to get into listing all the games because that's not what this topic is about.

But the 3DS launch was mainly comprised of games that wouldn't appeal to wider audiences, like 2D fighters and a Pilotwings revival. The only launch window game that could really appeal to the casual crowd was Nintendogs + cats, which surprise surprise, was by far the most successful. By the way, if you'd read my point, you would have realised that those N64 remakes and 3D land have nothing to do with my post.

And bear in mind that I said relatively speaking.

The part I find odd about the article is the idea that the 3DS's launch only appealed to the hardcore. I'm pretty sure the 3DS's problem was that it didn't appeal to anyone. It took an entire year for them to release a truly stellar title for the console that was not a port.

Hey now, some of the system's best game came out in the holidays last year. In fact the first year, when looked at in its complete form, is one of the best on any system. The problem was the first few months. Coupled with other issues, of course, such as confusion with the DS and changes in the market meaning that you need to come out with more, quickly.

But an entire year? It didn't take that long.

I would also argue that they did focus on the hardcore in the launch window, relatively speaking.

Ag

But seriously, Nintendo are fine. Even if they continued losing money at this rate, they shouldn't go bankrupt until the next century. Combine that with the fact that the loss was much smaller than projected and it shows that Nintendo are already recovering their losses. A hiccup, but nothing more.

It makes them very difficult to rewatch when you know how weak the resolution to the mystery they're setting up is. I mean, they set up all this intrigue then basically handwaved the mystery away. For a show that's largely about questions surrounding the setting and situation the characters have found themselves in, this weakens the whole show.

Speaking of which, regardless of what some people say the ending didn't give a worthy conclusion to the characters, either.

Really the ending just came off to me as a mix of a weak attempt at wrapping up the plot as quickly as possible, and a weak attempt at emotional manipulation. Put the two together and you get rushed, bad television. It failed to be conclusive, it failed to be emotional, it failed to be entertaining.

LOST>both of these imo

That's it. I'm going to have to confiscate your username.

But seriously, Lost has a great first 4 seasons, with some weak parts, but the last two absolutely kill the whole show. Season 5 has its moments, but ultimately was a mess of hastily resolved and dropped plot threads. Season 6 starts with a lot of promise but manages to lose it all in the single biggest downward spiral ever seen in a TV show. The ending in particular is especially terrible, and "pulling a Lost" has now come to mean ruining your story with an ending that is just... awful. It really says a lot that the ending manages to make the entire season bad in retrospect.

So yeah, would recommend for the first four seasons. The Season 4 finale is a better conclusion than the actual last episode before its final scene, some hanging plot threads, but not nearly as many!
