25. PL_Barnblitz: Barnblitz is the newest map of the bunch, arriving alongside the Uber update. Unfortunately, the final point is pretty bad. Its just a mess of sentries and spam, and its not terribly fun for either side. As attackers, you have to knock down multiple sentries while surviving in areas that are somewhat easy to spam. As defenders, youre usually stuck inside the barn, waiting for attackers to come to youtrying to exit the barn can frequently get you killed.
So the final point is bad, what about the rest of the map? Its well just kinda there for the most part. The first point is alright, but it gets rolled over quickly unless teams are uneven. The second point is located in a spammy tunnel, so thats kinda lame. The third point is actually somewhat interesting, as the barn located along the tracks provides some cool height advantage and a genuinely interesting area for flanking. I kinda feel like they should have emphasized this part of the map more, as its easily the maps strongest point. Overall, the map is just kinda mediocre with a bad final point. Unique/Interesting/Memorable features- Ive said enough about the last point, so Ill just reiterate that the barn alongside the tracks leading to the third point is pretty cool. Uh, I'm pretty sure that picture is misleading. It seems to be showing the locations of seismographs used to collect data for the site rather than where earthquakes have taken place recently.

It does more damage than the normal "fight" command, and even more damage if you have a spear equipped, I believe. Basically, your character jumps into the air, and is offscreen for a while (evading most attacks). Then they come back down and hit whichever enemy you had them target.

26. PL_Frontier- It starts out like a normal payload map, then you get to that hill. That. ****ing. Hill. The uphill portion of the map forces you through a tiny, easily-spammed area, usually watched over by a sentry gun. There is exactly one other route, and you still have to pass through something of a chokepoint that can be locked down. Granted, if you can get through this side route, your flanking options dramatically increase, but
ugh.
Maybe other people have had different experiences than me (since I think Ive seen people praise this map), but to me this is an average map that is dragged down by the uphill portion. I was actually prepared to rate it a bit higher, but I hadnt played the map in a while and remembered the hill section being bad. So I joined a server that was running the map just to refresh my memory. Yep, terrible. Maybe shouldve rated this even lower. Unique/Interesting/Memorable features: The train, Lil Chew-Chew, will kill people if at least 3 people are pushing it. Neat. The train and the map actually seem designed together to facilitate ambushes at certain points. Just out of curiosity, does the Short Circuit allow you to get rid of sticky traps that are close but you don't have line of sight to (around corners, through a doorway, etc.)? I doubt it does, but it'd be neat.

Yeah, it's 173 if damage spread is off. You can go higher or lower (never less than 150, I believe) if damage spread is on.

According to the wiki page for the Short Circuit:

27. CP_Mountain Lab + CP_Mann Manor- Not too much to say about this one. It just feels a bit uninspired, and the Halloween gimmick is about ten times more interesting than the map. The map itself is fairly linear, and it gets pretty boring after B is capped, as the map is limited to hallways and smaller rooms at that point.
Unique/Interesting/Memorable features: The Headless Horseless Horsemann is the most notable feature. It's the first official "boss" in TF2, and people have speculated that the upcoming "raid" game mode might have similar boss characters. 28. CP_Steel- Steel is a rather unique map, but being unique doesnt make it good. The layout makes it particularly confusing to newcomers, though thats usually remedied after a few rounds. Point E being open for capture at all times is interesting, though this rarely offers more than a distraction before C is captured.
My main problem with Steel lies with points B, C, and D. Point A is alright, and point E works just fine as the main point. B, C, and D, arent terribly interesting to approach, though. There tends to be a lot of explosive spam when fighting near these pointsB is especially bad about this. Overall, the gimmick of the map is more interesting than the map design itself. Also, two other things about Steel that bug me: The gate from B to C opens incredibly slowly, which seems rather unnecessary, and you can burn people through the A to D door, an exploit that has existed forever. Heres a video of said exploit: To my knowledge, it still hasnt been fixed. Unique/Interesting/Memorable features: The gimmick of the map, Point E, is actually pretty neat as an idea. 29. CP_Egypt- CP_Egypt was introduced in the Scout update and stands as further proof that the Scout update totally sucked. Its not as bad as Junction, but its certainly not a good map either. Still, Egypt is notable for introducing the Egyptian theme, which is also seen in Lakeside. It also has some interesting use of vertical space for 2-1 and 3-1.
The problem is that you dont really spend a whole lot of time in these interesting areas. A lot of time on Egypt is spent in the much less interesting tunnels/corridors trying to grind multiple ubers because the last point of each stage is so easy to turtle on. While 2-1 and 3-1 are somewhat interesting, attackers generally take those points fairly quickly (especially 3-1), then run into a wall on the second point of the stage. Unique/Interesting/Memorable features- The Egyptian theme, complete with TF2-style hieroglyphs: ![]() The huge height advantage defenders get at the beginning of stage 2 and 3 is also kind of cool/memorable.
