Personally I kept facepalming at people buying into his HOPECHANGE.

There wasn't necessarily a reason to assume Obama wasn't going to implement HOPECHANGE.

To the modern America that is used to being coddled at every step of their life, yes, it does seem extreme

It's really not, though

Yes, it is. Talking to a person is a non-extreme way to teach them something. Screwing up their life is extreme.

LMAO pro-abortion people.

Excellent pro-life argument you have there.

Instead, let's teach that 14-year-old girl that life's problems can easily be abortioned away so that she can continue to make the same mistakes and never face the consequences of things until they're really severe. Mmhm.

Screwing up someone's life just to teach them that "life's problems" should be faced seems extreme.

Adoption's always viable and just as emotionally scarring as an abortion, IMO.

Pretty sure adoption is not always viable.

Also, overpopulation is already a threat.

So either a 14 year old girl gets an abortion and potentially leads a normal life, or she gets a child which horribly screws up the life of both her and the child.

Clearly the latter option is superior because RESPONSIBILITY

Who did he mean?

Paerarru. He had just arrived on the board at the time and got into a huge abortion argument (naturally, he was pro-life) Shake's referring to. In literally every post he made there he would call someone a "parrot." He was pretty bad, but not memorable enough to be on a "top 3 worst users ever" list, I reckon.

Society also has the right to reestablish slavery, while we're at it.

I don't dislike Muffin. I'll admit that wasn't always the case, but I've grown to like the guy a lot more. I don't care that we're never going to agree on anything politics-related ever, but what I still find annoying about him is that he seems to refuse to listen to good arguments. In debates he'll often ignore good points made against him - he claims this is because he's regularly arguing with 20 people at once and doesn't have time to respond to everything, but I'm skeptical about this. Not nearly all the Muffin arguments I've read had that many people arguing with him. He refuses to watch a 30-second Noam Chomsky clip, but expects us to watch two-hour videos from conservative theorists. That kind of thing.

SephyG isn't a poor man's Muffin. Muffin definitely believes everything he says, while Sephy just takes whatever political position seems to be the most unpopular on the board to troll people.

Also, I don't recall what was so horrible about Super Saiyan Gnome >_>

uh smurf is the one who has been and will always continue to ignore any legitimate criticism that is directed his way, that is why all of his lists have always been and will always continue to be trash

Ignoring a couple of WTF-choices like omegaman, I'm very lenient on a list like this, because, like yo said, there's always going to be bias and there simply isn't a superuser on the board who's been here since '02 and has extensive knowledge of all the subgroups that have ever been here. From what I've seen the "legitimate criticism" is basically a bunch of users saying "this isn't how I would've done this list," and their opinions aren't more valid than Smurf's. Just because half the board thinks HM should be in the top 5 doesn't mean they're more objectively right than Smurf is.

I don't see "would you allow humans marrying animals as well?" as slippery slope - that's a question to understand what the position of the person precisely is. Slippery slope is "you think gay marriage is right, therefore you have to believe human-animal marriage is right."

It's highly reasonable to think that if we allow socialism now, communism will follow later.

I don't see how that's reasonable at all. That's like saying if we allow capitalism now, anarchy will follow later.

I guess it depends on how you define "slippery slope." If you define it as an argument that inherently lacks any credible evidence or logical reasoning, then yeah, I guess they'd all be inherently wrong. But most people don't actually seem to use it that way. Pretty much every time I post anything where I claim that X leads to Y, a bunch of trolls show up and think that yelling SLIPPERY SLOPE somehow automatically means that I'm wrong.

Yeah, that doesn't mean using slippery slope is a good way to argue, that just means the people you argue with don't know what slippery slope is. Slippery slope isn't "giving the government more power leads to the US being worse off." Slippery slope is "if you believe in socialism you must believe in communism."

I'll pick a middle ground between both sides of the HM argument. Yes, he used to be popular, but to me popularity =! influence - AT was the most popular user here at one point, and most regulars now probably don't even know who he is. And I think Ulti was the first user to do huge list topics and stuff. HM was the first one to regularly post gaming news, though, and of course he's the reason for all the Heroic alts.
