I think another topic like this makes sense, given how long the game is and activity was still quite high. At least I'm not ready to move to the spoiler topic lol and I know I'm not the only one. I feel like I have really tried playing a lot but I'm still only in Chapter 10.

Let me start with an apparent hot take, Chocobo gliding minigame is fun and the controls were just fine also before patch.
Guinness Book of World Records is the name of the diary that belongs to azuarc , the winner of the Game of the Decade II guru contest.
Heads up that the final quest seems to have become glitched and unbeatable with the most recent patch
The game recognizes that I beat the G-Bike high score but it doesn't recognize it as counting towards one of the five Ultimate Party Animal requirements
Other people seem to have this issue as well so it's not just a one-off issue on me.
RappinHobo's alt until he gets bored with this one, deletes it, and uses another alt
I am not clicking that but if it's a general thing hopefully it gets patched very fast!

I'm still all the way back in Chapter 6.

Biggest disappointment by far is the inability to wear the beachwear outside of Costa Del Sol.

Can you buy wear it in the rest of the corel area? Or at least the upper half?

Think i am about to wrap up chapter 8 Barret vs Dyne wasn't executed as well as in the original.

Just got to chapter 9 and Gongaga is pretty awesome. Did not expect much but it's def the most interesting region so far. Cool story stuff too as someone who has only played CC before

I liked all the Corel stuff (after the beach) and it was great pacing to split up the open world stuff with big story sections. Felt much more like Remake.

Congrats Black Turtle !
Yeah I wanted to go back and clean up Junon but I do appreciate how the game locks you out of the open world for a time. I do enjoy the way you're often moving forward.
Not to be confused with XIII_Minerals.
The game was pretty clear about what was a point of no return in Junon so I did everything possible before passing that point.

It was one of the game's high points!

The stretch of ascending to Upper Junon to finishing up chapter 8 is the best the game ever is.

oops

Upper Junon sucked ass though. And the beach's forced minigames were really disappointing (other than QB puzzles). The worst part is it undermines the Gold Saucer as a minigame world since it comes so soon after.

I think if to like chapter 9, it's going to set the tone for how you will feel about much of the rest of the game.

I did not like chapter 9.

I think they require patience more than anything. At some point I couldn't rush them but then it was still fine.

I struggled to get perfect rank with the most recent piano song though.

Up to now in chapter 9, I'm a fan of the goofy stuff.
The serious stuff is more of a mixed bag, some stuff is great, sometimes it just doesn't land or have the same impact as it did in the original.
Faster pacing in the original does keep you more on edge throughout the buildup of Disc 1.

Rebirth, some stuff feels too drawn out or just takes too much time in general.
But Junon in particular was a great section.

Sorry but I just found this nugget on the Rebirth board

Anyone remember there was an old website named, "AerisDies" or something like that (using her english name Aeris), from the late 90's or early 2000's, I think it was a Final Fantasy fansite or something. The whole thing was like the "Snape kills Dumbledore" of its day.
I don't kill... but I don't lose either.
It was a fansite all right

I am becoming increasingly curious how the original did some of this stuff. I knew a bit about Midgar but absolutely nothing about this part of the game, except for Zolomy and End Of Disc One (although I had no idea where in the game those events took place). I'm assuming the most ridiculous things like Dio are faithfully goofy recreations from the original. But I also wonder if there was a such a long and boring military parade section. And a 1v1 Dyne fight. I'll prob watch the Let's Mosey episodes of this after I finish the game.

Those aspects were there in the original. It is remarkable how much detail is reflected in this game from the OG in one way or another (across settings, level design, enemy types & NPC placement).

Gongaga is new though. I mean it was in FFVII, but as an optional town with a few scenes, not as a region with major plot events.

Is there nothing to spend money on, even at the end of the game?
All the stars in the sky are waiting for you.
I am sitting at 600k gil. Other than buying a few materia for 500g, nope.
Congrats to azuarc for winning GOTD2

You do get a Gil Toss materia but IDK what the max damage you're able to do with it.

Modern RPGs have lost the ability to do shops right. They just want to give you everything for free
Congrats Black Turtle !
The chicken sidequest played with my emotions

I briefly thought it was the worst shit ever, then it was over fast enough

Then it hinted I'd be doing the chicken pull thing the whole way back to the Village but got stopped after 30s for a fight

Then an unexpectedly savage ending

And hilariously using the game over theme after eating the chicken

A real rollercoaster, that one

In general I'd say the "RPG" side of the game* is the weakest - there's not much to pick up in the field other than routine items and transmutation fodder, and while there are some interesting choices to make in equipping your characters, the options feel stingy. Why get given 60 odd accessories to only equip one per person, even at the very end? Most players will just pick the same 3 or 4. The folio system becomes less interesting as the game goes on because you get to the point where you have everything you'd want from it. The weapon choices and skills are fine but still pretty limited. And frustratingly the manual doesn't give you clear information on what the numbers do and there's no training dummy (although you can work around this pretty easily to be fair).

*By which I mean something like a sense of seeking out and collecting stuff, either to learn more about the world or to make your party stronger, and which lets you focus on things that are bespoke to your playstyle or interests. I appreciate the materia system fills a lot of the space that would normally be given to it, but I'd like to see more in part 3.

got the g-bike bug in chapter 12 (can't progress the quest even though I beat the guy's score by 2000 points)

Yeah the strangest decision to me is the materia earrings accessory. Accessory slots seem way more valuable than a single materia slot so I don't get the design behind those unless there was something I missed.

This basically. I have never once been like, oh boy, a materia earring accessory! Can't wait to use that! They are all completely and utterly worthless.

OK that wasn't just me then lol. Assess Earing, sure I'll get right on that.

Same with the Gil, I bought all the discounted items just for the hell of it, but other than that I only ever bought QB cards.

Oh yeah! In the second playthrough I'm doing and not rushing through, I just did and completed Gears and Gambits for the first time.

Am I missing something here? The game seems completely fine. I had issue on level 3 and then dove into things a bit more and figured out a strat that worked for both level 3 and the final level first try.

Why do people hate this mini game again? Yeah, I get that it's more involved but like... it didn't feel like bullshit to me. I thought it was totally serviceable.

Not like Chocobo Glide though, fuck that LOL

I just completed it earlier today and didn't have issues with it.

I also didn't with Chocobo Glide though. I think Cactuar Crush is the only thing I haven't found fun so far so great that I'm not even nearly done lol.

Chocobo Glide would be 1000000x better if you could move the camera around. I don't know when or where I'm supposed to be diving because I can't see fucking shit. Easily the worst part about it.

That's basically what they want you to do. It's boring as hell to play economy simulator in a single person game like this. It's just there for the occasional dopamine hit of a discount, and in rare cases when you do need to buy specific items.

I thought the junk and transmutation was boring until I saw the exp system, then it became addictive af even though it's still useless.

But the folio and weapon trees are the worst. Such boring and minor upgrades that you can't care about it at all. They should've gotten rid of them, or at least given an auto option for the folios.
_foolmo_
he says listen to my story this maybe are last chance
I think the folios are much more interesting than the weapon upgrade thing they had in Remake which was literally only things like. +10 Atk! +10 Mag Atk! +1 Materia Slot!

At least there's more decision here for things and more options. I'd like there to be MORE of course and less things that don't really matter but it's absolutely a step up from Remake in that regard.
~Silver_Ermine~
http://24.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m9r5hhXQbJ1rbct63o1_500.gif
I also wouldn't say boring and minor upgrades. There's the syngery attacks and then also things that matter a lot. Cait has 2 in particular that are super good. One keeps him from dying once and living with 1 HP and then the other lets him have a free level 2 buff to the team after using Let's Ride.

The Folio seems fun at first and I liked it until around weapon level 3, when you realize how minute it is and you're just not spending anything until you unlock the next synergy skill or synergy attack node, and then you follow the path of least resistance to it.

I also think it's weird you have to do it at a station or store. There's nothing there that implies it would be an issue to get to it whenever you want...of course there's so little reason to ever actually look at it that it doesn't really matter.

However it's still better than the one in Remake lol.

I don't know what the solution is, it's not like anything else is really doing it well nowadays either. The one is Tales of Arise was super busy and uninteresting with way too much junk, too.

As much as I don't like the game, I don't know if the Zodiac Job Board is ever going to be topped!

I think the funniest part is that the first time you do folios, the guy says that the first time is free of charge.

My guy, it's always free, what the hell you talking about.

Reprieve is the best ability yeah, I think most party members can learn it.

In Remake the best weapons were basically the ones that had it too.

like 1/5th of the nodes are good yeah. But there are literally ones that are like +3% attack damage, or +5% limit when you stagger. Pittance.

If they reduced it to 1 or 2 major choices per weapon level, like a typical talent tree system, it would be really nice.

There is definitely some leftover UI in weapon levels and character trees from concepts that didn't make it into the game(or were cut from remake).

This was so weird to me. Basically every time I walk into a bookstore, I wonder why I have to do this.

Unrelated, I just got the Chcocobo glide part and am so confused why so many were talking about inverting the controls here? Unless I'm mistaken and it was a different minigame.
