The top shelf of my TV stand just fucking shattered. Randomly.

It didn't even have a TV on it. It had a PS5, some amiibos, a switch, and a set of gamecube controllers. Its held that weight for nearly 8 years. Its held heavier than that.

Then just out of the blue fucking explosion. Glass everywhere. All my stuff covered in it. I think everything is safe but it was everywhere. The glass just exploded downwards into thousands upon thousands of tiny little pieces.

No major temperature changes in the room, no cat running across it, just randomly shattered with absolutely nothing going on.

Got a couple of small cuts cleaning up but I think I cleared it out.

But I need a new TV stand, and I don't have a bed because all my stuff is now on it.

Only casualty is my dog is going to have to need a new bed because a lot of the glass landed in his. Not comfortable puitting him in that.

yep this happened to me maybe 5-6 years ago. Luckily it was the bottom shelf that only had the PS4 on it shattered so it didn't fall too far

I assumed it was from using the PS4 and it constantly heating and cooling the glass that over time it cracked

Yeah we used to have a tempered glass table outside that busted like that when we set a still warm casserole (not even hot, just warm) on it. We were even sitting at it.

Luckily somehow none of us were hurt but tempered glass REALLY does not like temperature changes apparently.

Swore off the stuff after that too.

i feel like the sides of my computer case should have disintegrated if that's how it works

like, I have good cooling and venting but if I overclock the thing it gets incredibly toasty in there
If you wake up at a different time, in a different place, could you wake up as a different person?

It only happens if there is a fault in the glass. It wont happen to everyone.

The problem is you realistically have no way of knowing if your glass has a fault when you buy it or had one form without you knowing it afterward until BOOM.

This is why I have shower curtains instead of glass doors. My coworker had his glass shower door explode and cut up his legs/feet.

I've never been comfortable with load-bearing surfaces made of glass. Do I need to be able to see my feet while I eat? Almost never!

It was so hard to find a nice 3-tier stand that wide(63").

I don't know what I'm going to replace it with though I have more options now since I'd long since mounted my TV.

It works by working I guess

I've had my tower with one side of it being tempered glass for about 5 years now. I guess it's just a piece that isn't flawed

Yeah both sides of mine are tempered glass and swing out for easy access of the internals.
