Always hard to lose a friend.

My cat of 22 years old died around this time last year right in front of me, so I feel you.

Yeah sadly it's something we all have to go through as pet owners. My cat was only 10 years old and I had to put her down about 1.5 years ago because she got sick from hyperthyroidism and wasn't responding to treatment and eventually just stopped eating.

Thats horrible. Take all the time you need to cope.

Im not sure how much this would help, but perhaps you could make a memorial for her?
Its not the first time I lost a cat of course, but she's been with me the longest and could have lasted a lot longer if not for some damned throat tumor.

Also the first time I lost a cat without another in the house.

And knowing me, memorials would only make things worse. But I was not the only one she knew anyway.

Depending on how close you were, and how able you are to find something/someone to fill the void, it's going to hurt for a long time. I found a delightful one-year-old stray with a great personality, the same color, and enough energy & affection that one would think I wouldn't long for his predecessor, who I lost around 9 months ago, but I still dearly miss Neko.
Only the exceptions can be exceptional.
I think I remember a topic like that.
Honestly any loss of a pet is tragic no matter how long you knew them.

So sorry to hear this - went through it myself 5ish years ago (cat was even the same age) and it was one of the most emotional experiences of my life. The pain and misery goes away it definitely takes time. Cats don't get to be that old without being loved so at least know that she was happy with you.
Let the voice of love take you higher,
With this gathering power, go beyond even time!
My condolences, losing a pet sucks.

I lost the last of my 3 cats who all lived to about 16-17 and had since they were kittens earlier this year as well.

It's awful to have to go through. Just remember you gave them a good life and they loved you. That's all you really can do.
I'm sorry. I'm sure she lived a great life since you are hurting so much without her.
:> I'll never stop smilin'
she/her

So a planet's somewhere out there, their history the same as ours is written. The only difference is that... Everyone's a kitten!
So sorry to hear that

I'm really sorry to hear that and completely understand what you're going through.

My 19 year old cat passed away July 16th last year. It wasn't unexpected and she actually gave me ~6 weeks longer than her diagnosis but I was still absolutely devastated. She was my tiny shadow who followed me everywhere.

What was unexpected was my 8 year old boy passed away unexpectedly on January 10th this year. He just got breathing difficulties out of nowhere, spent $4000 in emergency vet bills the day it happened and there was nothing they could do to save him and they couldn't even say what was the cause. I'll never forget how he was looking at me and his cries asking me to help him. There was no limit to what I was willing to spend to save him and I still feel like I failed him even today.

It does get easier over time but the sadness will never truly go away. I'm not ashamed to say I broke down crying about them both earlier this week after being ok for quite some time. And I'm definitely not usually an emotional person.

I don't know if it will help you but I made a shrine in a display cabinet for them both. Photos, paw print and their ashes side by side. It's on prominent display in the room I'm most frequently in.
16 years is a long time to be together. I'm sorry for your loss, my friend.
