This would effectively end the loophole that allowed people to legally purchased THCa and may even affect CBD products.

So not only did the Dems concede on everything, they even tossed in an extra goddamn concession to the GOP.

Fuck, someone please explain to me why electing these fuckers is doing anything good?

Because Pharma tell them to be against it, I assume, and then pay the politicians to get rid of it, even though the tax money from it would help.

The loophole hasn't been handled well by many states.

You have gas station weed everywhere and Florida has openly looked the other way on Delta 8 and other recent cannabinoid innovations like Delta 10 or the extremely potent THCP.

Minnesota, on the other hand, has a thoroughly regulated hemp market. They get punished.

There's a time and place for everything... but not now.
One of the few things I give Trump credit for is legalizing industrial hemp. Seems he wants to undo that

Innovation as in they are now able to extract and isolate those naturally occuring cannabinoids from hemp, Yes

As much as I hate Trump, this (probably) has nothing to do with him, though I don't think he cares enough to not sign it if it comes across his desk.

Yes, that is the point.

And does anyone have the exact language of the section? Did they really only specify sativa and not indica? Another loophole?

Either way, Paul is going to try to get it ripped out.

Apparently it's just the "weed loophole" and not a full ban on hemp:
https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/congress/government-shutdown-may-last-longer-fight-hemp-rcna243075
If enacted and signed into law, the hemp provision would mean hundreds of now-legal THC products most commonly sold as Delta-8 or Delta-9 would no longer be legal to sell. It is currently federally legal to sell hemp-derived THC products as long as they contain no more than 0.3% THC by dry weight. The language in the new legislation imposes a total THC limit of 0.4 milligrams and would effectively ban those products for personal or household use.

they get to have a big theatrical "you guys voted to kill healthcare!" in a month that everyone will either have forgotten about or died from by the time midterms happen (if they happen).

Same as the previous time dems caved on a shutdown for a pinky promise of "pwease vote on this issue" followed by republicans voting no.

also SNAP and government worker stuff and air travel stuff I guess
Why not go all in?
I read Rand Paul is currently objecting to it, not sure how that works though

He is introducing an amendment that will keep the status quo on this issue. Just a few months ago the Texas government introduced a ban on hemp that was ultimately vetoed by the governor. The alcohol lobbyists pushed HARD to get it banned, so it was ultimately the alcohol industry vs the will of the people (and the hemp industry). Surprisingly, Abbott ultimately sided against the alcohol lobby.

There was a huge push by dems, Republicans and independents (voters) alike with a lot of hemp advocacy groups taking center stage. The proposed ban was vastly unpopular across all party lines in texas. I expect the same to happen nationally, though I'm unsure how the timing works with this bill and/or any amendments Rand Paul or others may attempt to implement

Another thing of note is, along with the alcohol lobby, the medical marijuana industry in Texas also was pushing hard for the ban (so they can sell the same kind of products at absurdly high prices)
?
I CAN see a lot of states fighting back against this since it would fuck over a lot of farmers (which is the reason why Abbott opposed the proposed Texas ban), but considering who those farmers voted for in the first place...
I have nothing else to say
Bottom line is we are likely screwed. Rand Paul's amendment would likely need 60 votes if he can even get it to come to a vote. He ain't getting 60 votes on this lol. There will be plenty of no votes from both sides of the aisle.

One of the few times we see bipartisanship in action: when it comes to screwing over the public at the behest of powerful lobbies.

same with pro-lifers. they're rich, they'll just secretly get an abortion somewhere. it's all virtue signaling.

Allmind exists for all mercenaries.
The scummiest part about this is the vast majority of Americans will have no idea this was in the bill until well after it passes. I think I consume a fair amount of news daily, and I wouldn't have known about this if it wasnt for this topic.

There are millions of Americans who purchase hemp products from farm bill compliant vendors, even in states where it has been legalized (it is a billion dollar industry in Texas alone that produced over $5b in tax revenue last year) and they wont know there is a ban until well after this passes the house. There was no say from Americans in the process (over 60% of Republican voters were against a ban in Texas!) and an amendment to take it out was just rejected from a vote 78-22.

Not to mention the hundreds of thousands of jobs that exist because of the hemp industry (over 50,000 jobs in Texas alone).

That shit sucks man

"It's a simple question, Doctor: would you eat the Moon if it were made of ribs?"
Yeah, I don't think that was the play.

Headaches the loophole caused aside, the farm bill was generally considered the only remotely good thing Trump has done, and now the dems are going to get the blame for shutting it down.

I wonder what states and companies are going to do now. The status quo did need improvements.

For example, Brand XYZ takes pride in their signature vapes: 50% D8, 25% THCA. They know all of that THCA becomes D9 when heated. Their COA from a credible lab does not have to disclose that conversion. Everything looks kosher otherwise.

That brand, their retailers, and the lab are now in a worse gray area.

You answered your own question. Even as someone staunchly against the use of mind altering substance on a personal level, I can absolutely see how useful the stuff is to many people.

Our politicians though only care for themselves and their corporate interests by and large.
