I've become friendly with Taquitos.

Cheese enchiladas with refried beans and Spanish rice. Sopapillas for dessert if the place has them.

Fajitas, always shrimp if its an option but typically end up with beef.

Tacos al pastor are typically my 'comparison' order at a new place
Your memes.... end here.
Enchiladas, which are hard to mess up for me. I like fajitas but I rarely get it at places so it's typically just a food I eat if my dad or grandparents made it.

Tacos I'm way more picky about, and my favorites which were from a family-owned restaurant in Laredo went to shit when the son ruined that place. I still weep for those simple yet peak bean and cheese tacos...

Beef fajitas are my go-to, but I occasionally opt for chicken enchiladas.

:/

Same thing happened to one of my favorite places near Dallas. The old man died and then his son took over and ran it into the ground.

Fajitas are the tex mexest of all tex mex so can't go wrong with that

Favorite dish from my local favorite place is just a bean and cheese chimichanga.

We had a 3rd location that was mobile for many years. There was a place on the way home. I would get a salad, a taco, refried beans

Gimme a burrito that is just smothered in sauce and cheese please

I don't think I've eaten at a tex mex place unless taco bell or chili's counts.
I thought that they were angels, but to my surprise

If I know the chile rellenos are good, I will usually order them.

If I don't know, I'll play it safe and stick with tacos. I've been burned too many times by a scrambled egg wrapped around a mild pepper listed on menus as a chile relleno, and if they don't know how to make a chile relleno they almost certainly don't know how to make a tamale.

i've never been to one, i assume the choice is between tex and mex?

Usually ground beef enchiladas or a chicken burrito. Or if it's one of the Mexican restaurants that has fries, then carne asada fries.

We have 2 local chains in LA that are fantastic: El Torito and El Cholo. Those are my go-tos for sit down restaurants that serve Mexican food.

Tamales and Spanish rice
The shadows I live with are numberless
Enchiladas
You're never ever fully dressed without a smile!
pork verde burrito with rice and beans
Tortilla with cheat, meat, and vegetables.

But yeah, usually some fajitas or something. I hate tomatoes so gotta make sure it's something without that. Lol

I judge any place like that by their child rellenos. So I always order that if I'm going to a new place.

Most of the Tex Mex places Ive been too have combos that come with an enchilada, taco, rice and beans. I normally get something like that. Or theyll do an enchilada combo with 3 different enchiladas with different sauces
Enchiladas and Tamales. Homemade tamales are always superior, but I like to be a prude and judge tamales while still enjoying them.

Idk if I would call tacos Al pastor Tex Mex, but my Californian ass loves them.
Peace Love Dope
Also this topic reminds me that I'm making some chili Colorado Friday and I make...burritos...enchiladas?... With it. Pour some Pancho queso over them. So good.

Which, btw, if anyone craves that gooey white cheese sauce used in a lot of Mexican restaurants for stuff like nachos, def recommend Pancho's. It's so awesome!

Yeah the orphan meat has to be locally sourced and fresh for me to really enjoy it.

Enchiladas, quesadillas, maybe a breakfast burrito is about it from those places.

I'd eat most anything at the authentic restaurants tho, especially the Sonoran ones in the southwest.

Probably some kind of burrito, fajita or enchilada at a generic texmex place.

That said, one of the best restaurants in my home town had this incredible steak fajita salad in a tortilla bowl with in-house ranch dressing. We would go there for every occasion and it was always packed.

I think something personal happened with the owner, because, even though it was super popuular, it closed for a while, then re-opened under new management, but it was never the same. It closed and re-opened 2 more times and then closed for good. My disappointment was indescribable.
Carne asada was my usual go-to for a long time but now I try everything, though I typically don't eat fish food.

Beef chimichangas are my main go-to, although my favorite local place has started serving birria tacos which have been particularly good...
