Like damn, if my manager tried to decline my PTO I'd seriously consider quitting on the spot

yeah, depending on where you work
A worthless existence
? Even in Scotland it isn't uncommon. Just a couple of days ago at my work there was tension over who has to work Christmas Eve.
Ghosts are cool.
i imagine if youre on some kind of scheduled shift then it probably gets denied a lot
Wink wink oh oh wink wink
In America, companies are technically not legally required to offer PTO.

The "Land of the Free" also has the lowest amount of mandated PTO in the world, behind Japan.

I just had two days denied earlier this week. I obviously disagree with the decision but it is what it is... I put the request in for two days a month and a half away... Oh well.

Well thats the common scenario since a lot of people want those days.

For me it depends on your manager and how humane they are.
SEXY SEXY!
I have never heard of it happening, but I have only worked salaried/exempt office jobs. I'm sure it's more common in other settings.
Not where I work, but I know there are places where it is more common, often in service and hospitality type jobs.
very common when I used to work at airport

its a 24/7/365 operation so that always complicated things

Depends on the industry, too. I've worked in healthcare and still have to be there.

Now I work for a huge shipping company and that's our peak season. Have a blackout period from mid November until January. Have to get all those packages to people... I'll be working 70-80 hours a week during that time. I just hope we don't have to go seven days a week..

I've personally never had a problem. I give enough advance notice that any conflicts can be worked around, and if it's an emergency my employer/boss is understanding.

I don't work in a fast-paced or critical industry, though.

Try working a job where it cant function without you, so if you get sick and need time off, everyone is upset

i hope there's a day off or two each week during the blackout for you. gets stressful if don't have a day to unwind.

as far as the PTO thing. my uncle didn't have a problem when he wanted to request days off. he only used them when he was sick or needed to spend them. in his last days he used them because the sciatica pain got so bad (doctors couldn't or wouldn't help him) probably what drove him to do meth (then again rhonda encouraged him because he was horny for her and didn't want to put out).
