yeah, it definitely takes a hard tone veer and skips a fuckload of context
re the gameplay, once u get used to chainsawing folks youre gonna love it. i think the story/world/tone is much worse in eternal, but Eternal is absolute peak FPS-play. rivaled only by Bulletstorm
I keep hearing people dislike the story, which is weird because my best friend loves the story. Maybe I'll love it too, but I did like 2016's story. We'll see.

What are your thoughts on the platforming?
I like it. I remember playing 2016 and there was some platforming there and I enjoyed that too. It had me jumping everywhere. I like the climbing aspect except I need to get used to it. When I jump to a wall, I almost forget to click R3 and I almost drop down lol.

I honestly have no idea why they started the game the way they did. Where did Slayer end up at the end of 2016? How did he end up having a spaceship base? How much time has actually passed? Maybe there was some kind of prologue comic or something but I don't remember.
Super fun game though, regardless.
Yeah, I started it immediately after finishing 2016 thinking that it'll start you where Sam sent you. I thought I'd wake up in hell and have to fight my way out but it didn't turn out that way at all.

Who cares about the story in Doom? Whenever I picked up logs in Doom Eternal, I just closed them without reading. I just wanted to get back to killing.
I tend to play games for their story so I'm looking forward to it. Although, I don't have too much of an idea of what's going on yet except something about priests.

Combat is absolutely phenomenal once you get most of your toolset and figure it out.
Yeah, it's great, I just felt like I was almost dying a lot. Maybe I'll get used to it and when I get upgrades, it'll be a lot easier.

Its been awhile since I played Eternal but IIRC they wanted you to be frequently swapping weapons in every encounter. I think they leaned more into the "each enemy type is more susceptible to a particular weapon, so use the right weapon for the right enemy" strategy. So prioritizing key enemies, with the right weapons, should help you get through fights without running out of ammo. And also closing in for the chainsaw melees is vital too, to help you sustain ammo.
Yeah, that is very apparent with Cacao(I think I'm saying that right) demons and the sticky grenades. I love being able to land one on those turrets of the skull-brain, Olivia looking demons too. It feels so satisfying. I had to stop playing last night because I was getting sleepy but more importantly, I couldn't turn my music up and it felt like a complete waste to not have my speakers up. If it wasn't for my neighbors, I'd have turned it up to max cuz damn that soundtrack is killer.
