You people must frequent some really obscure, rural malls or something.Most of the malls here have restaurants and movie theaters, so they're still bustling. But I have also seen a mall die. There was a mall called the Hawthorne Plaza, which was in the southern part of LA County. It opened in 1977 and closed down in 1999. It's still there, 25 years later, sitting empty.
Malls can have restaurants and those will never go.
