For sure, N64. And this is coming from someone who was a die-hard fan of it back in the day.
I don't want to live on this planet anymore.
N64. The graphics have aged terribly, the controller is uncomfortable.
depends on if you're talking single player or multiplayer games. all of my friends at the time had an n64, and none of them had a gamecube. not sure that makes it worse or not, but it's something for sure.

Disclaimer: There's a good chance the above post could be sarcasm.

N64, but that's purely a comparative thing as I love both of them, I just love GameCube more.
GCN: Metroid Prime, Wind Waker, Sunshine, Luigi's Mansion, Melee, Thousand year door,

N64: Ocarina, Mario 64, Paper Mario, Star Fox 64, Goldeneye, Turok, Banjoe Kazooie
Assuming we're talking just about the consoles (not the quality of their game libraries) the N64 definitely had more design problems than the GameCube.

A lot more with N64

Wish you'd told me that before I voted because that makes the question a lot harder to answer.

Nintendo 64 was a little soul-crushing for a teen me that had no idea of the finer workings of the video game industries behind the scenes.

Here is kid and teen me.....grew up playing the greatest NES games, got a gameboy for christmas in 1989 I think it was so I got to experience some pretty good gameboy games throughout the years, and the SNES was my shit. I played so much SNES. (My family did have a sega genesis and my brother eventually bought the sega cd add-on for it so we played some sega related games also, but it really was all about that SNES for me).

The ultra 64, nintendo's next definitely going to be super awesome system is going to come out eventually. Hell yeah. Sega saturn does look pretty cool but I want to get this ultra 64 first because its going to have mega man, its going to have castlevania its going to have final fantasy, and a new chrono trigger, its going to kick ass. What the hell is a playstation? Pshhhh, it don't look like its all that.

.........bruh.

Now I did get that nintendo 64 for christmas in 1996 and it was the first 5th console generation console that I owned, but maaaaaaaaaaaaaan those games was as dry as the worst baked thanksgiving turkey. Yall have no idea just how much it crushed me to see nintendo's most loyal supporters jump ship and release games everywhere else but the platform I was expecting, lol.

(Like I said before man I ain't know what was going on behind the scenes. I didn't know nintendo's 3rd party relationship was always more of a tyrannical kind of thing on nintendo's part. and that nintendo deciding to stick with cartridges was a last straw for a lot of 3rd party companies of the time).

Mega man 8 and mega man X4 hurt me so damn much. All the capcom fighting games like street fighter alpha 2, x-men vs street fighter, and darkstalkers had ports everywhere else. (PS1 x-men vs street fighter and marvel vs street fighter may have been janky, but it was better than absolutely nothing). PS1 had a contra game......now the contra game may have been shit, but its still the fact of the matter that its a IP I loved on the NES and SNES ain't I can't play a new one on the N64. Bro wtf is this resident evil shit?......is a nintendo 64 version coming? No? What the FUCK. (Funny enough the N64 did get it's own actually pretty good port of resident evil 2 later, but that was later on in it's life. Already done had my PS1 for years at that point).

Oh, the jrpgs........so, so many jrpgs. Not on the N64, but on that new fancy PS1. The sega saturn also got it's share......N64 had goddamn quest 64.

Me and my family still made the best of it we did play the better local multiplayer games on the N64. Played a lot of the AKI-made wrestling games like wcw nwo world tour and when the 2 WWF games came out especially.

Final fantasy 7 might as well have like, mentally broke me on some ol' hentai kind of shit. That was the last straw....I had to get a PS1 in 1997. I cut so much grass and kept my grades high just so I can get a PS1. Damn you sony. Castlevania symphony of the night, metal gear solid 1, parasite eve, and brave fencer musashi was so good though.

*But yeah, nintendo 64 is genuinely my least favorite nintendo console out of all of them, even mroe so than the Wii U.*

Both were awesome for their time. But almost all n64 games aged terriblely. Many GameCube games are among the best games of all time

N64 has some super high highs but that's really it. It is abysmal in game selection. GCN at least was better in that regard but the highs aren't as high as say, Ocarina of Time or Mario 64.

My Gamecube got a lot less total playtime for me. For me, it was primarily for three games: Wind Waker, Metroid Prime (1 and 2), and Smash Melee. If I had any other games for it, I don't even remember them. I would have been interested in Thousand-Year Door, but just never got around to getting it at that particular stage in my life, I guess.

My N64 library on the other hand was closer to thirty, and a good chunk of those titles individually got a lot more total playtime from me than any of the mentioned GCN games did, such as Perfect Dark, from which my username was actually partly inspired.
I have such fond memories from both of them, hard to pick one over the other.
The GameCube, and its a landslide
CP: RDR 2 (PS4), PW:AA - SoJ (NS), Professor Layton vs PW:AA (3DS), GTA V (PS4/PC)
You forget a thousand things every day, make sure this post is one of 'em
Now that I think about it, I didn't play much gamecube at all either, but I still rate it way higher than the N64 in comparison.

I bought my gamecube specifically to play phantasy star online episode 1 and 2, but I did buy a used copy of sonic adventure 2 battle and played a lot of smash bros melee (which blew my mind compared to N64 smash bros).

I put in like 4,000 hours total in gamecube PSO episode 1 and 2, and so this one game alone got me more playtime then the entirety of the time I owned my N64, lol. I did eventually trade that gamecube in though......when it comes to online console gaming I was all on-board with the og xbox (the og xbox was for the console games I wanted to play online during the era, but the PS2 was the one with the massive single player game support. I did play resident evil outbreak online but eehhhhhh, PS2 online play was kind of rough. Before sony also made having broadband mandatory you had the 56K internet stragglers lagging the jump up. It made the outbreak experience awful), and they announced that the xbox was getting it's own port of PSO episode 1 and 2 so I didn't really see the need to hang onto the gamecube anymore.

My brother got his own gamecube a little later and so that was how I was able to play tales of symphonia, fire emblem path of radiance, and eternal darkness. (Friggin' loved this game and was my favorite jrpg for years until vesperia eventually took it's place, and then tales of xillia 1 and 2). All the other 6th console generation 3rd party games like sonic heroes, psy-ops, etc. I just played on the xbox since the xbox tended to have the best 3rd party game versions out of the 3 consoles.

The GameCube is when I realized I didn't really enjoy first party Nintendo games that much anymore, and I absolutely detested the controller.

Your head asplode.

On topic, N64 easily.
Honestly pretty surprised at how much hate the N64 is getting / love the GCN is getting in this thread. I thought the general reception of these two consoles was basically in the opposite directions, and by a lot more.

The hell it didn't, lol. 3D games in general were around way the hell before the N64 was a thing in 1996.

Even if you want to argue it from more of a "well super mario 64 made 3D platforming more intuitive or whatever" kind of angle, the PS1 had a launch 3D platformer in jumping flash in 1995.

What the N64 did do though was design the majority of it's games around the analog stick. (Analog sticks in general being around for awhile on older consoles so they weren't the first, but nintendo improved on this).

I think Id put the N64 slightly above GameCube. Its in the GOAT conversation for me, personally. Way too many great memories on it.

Mario 64, Mario Kart 64, Wayne Gretzkys 3D Hockey, NBA Hang Time, Star Fox 64, Ocarina of Time, Super Smash Bros, Conkers Bad Fur Day, WCW vs nWo: World Tour, WCW/nWo Revenge, Goldeneye 007, Perfect Dark, Paper Mario, Mario Tennis

Most of those were multiplayer games, so those games were built off great memories with friends. Good times.

If you were in to PC gaming in the late 90s (it's golden era, IMHO), the N64 was even more abysmal in its quality. The graphical divide between Goldeneye 64 and Quake 2 is vast, and those games came out the same year.

Now there is one thing the N64 was good at, and that's couch co-op. Sports games, party games, racing games, etc..
I voted 64 but the more I think about it the more I enjoyed the experiences I had with a 64.

The N64 was basically a Nintendo/Rare machine, so it really depends on how much you loved the output from those two companies. Personally, the N64 was my favorite console because of how much I loved Nintendo/Rare games as well as a few other gems like Space Station Silicon Valley.

Also I absolutely love 3D platformers more than every other genre combined. The Gamecube somehow ended up being one of the worst consoles for 3D platformers.

The N64 is where I fall out of love with Nintendo. While OoT and star fox are still great to me. So many of the games were just a miss or ugly to me. Compared to the PSX and when games where on both system . Most of them time it better on PSX. Now the GameCube is just under rated and if they went with Dvds would be talked about like the PS2 is today

N64 is one of the most overrated systems ever released. Gamecube has a better library, better controller, better form factor, and the tech inside was the standard for Nintendo for like 15 years including the Wii and Wii U.

The N64. The GameCube improved on it in pretty much every measurable way but the 3D revolution still had to start somewhere.
Taxes, death, and trouble.

The Ganbare Goemon games push the N64 hard but I think overall it's gotta be Gamecube.
N64, easily. Gamecube for me personally has the highest number of GOAT or at least top-three franchise entries outside of the SNES (Melee, Double Dash, Winder Waker, Metroid Prime).

N64 controller did actual damage to my hands playing Mario Party. Also, the design is hideous (sorry fans of it). Also GameCube has some of my favorite games ever on it.
