I remember liking it sort of when I was a teenager. But yea it's p much trash. Just tons of gore for and torture for shock value. And the main character is a baby in the body of an adult woman half the time.

that one scene where the girl wakes up to a bunch of handprints in her room is pretty cool.
the theme song is pretty cool.

don't late the haters win. People will hate on Elfen Lied but praise stuff like Tokyo Ghoul or Hell's Paradise.

The manga actually has an entire character that revolves around pissing herself. She's a singer but has to wear diapers because she pisses herself all the time. She actually signs the song Elfen Lied. The anime decided to cut that (also the manga was unfinished so you get a typical terrible anime only ending). But yeah the manga author obviously has a pissing fetish.

I rewatched it and it's not trash. I don't see how anyone can look at the animation, the artistic framing, and the music and say its bad. but yeah the slice of life stuff is pretty corny

The dog thing was so try hard, but I will admit Elfen Lied was my first introduction to "edgy" anime, so I'll give it that even though the main point of the series was to fulfill a lot of the Mangaka's fetishes.

I'm upset that to this day I kinda really love the opening, the singing is hauntingly good, and I don't even know why it has a reference to the Austrian painting The Kiss but I dig the whole aesthetic.

One thing I'll give Elfen Lied is that while it's so bad it's funny it never really felt generic. A lot of these shows commit the double sin of starting off needlessly edgy, gory, and stupid but then also devolving into generic shonen/harem/isekai-like crap.
