Back in my day the internets came on little shiny circles in a box!
You get to play a WHOLE WEEK EARLY ZOMG (:D)And have server connection issues that entire week
Back in my day we would throw those at each other.
You get to play a WHOLE WEEK EARLY ZOMG (:D)AUGMENT YOUR PREORDER
I grew up with the N64 for my earlier childhood.imagining mario 64 with a loading screen is nightmarish
I didn't even have loading screen.
I miss the manualsI bought a collection with a slip of paper that had a URL to the manuals for the games. I typed the URL in a browser and the website used to host the manuals was gone. When this happens you *really* miss the manuals. :(
Remember proper box art? Like, box art that could make you want to keep the box, even though the game didn't need it for storage. Some games still have good box art. Good, but not epic (and not GoW, etc. EPIC).
pretty sure literal brood wars came as an expansion to the base game which i already paid full price for, kiddoI thought this said liberal brood wars and I was like Id play that
You know what, let's talk about fighters, shall we?What balance patch are you referring to?
Street Fighter 2 came with 8 characters. Then they released four more. You wanna know how much they charged for those four characters?
Actually, you couldn't buy them. Not by themselves. You had to buy the game again to get them.
There was also a balance patch. Which, again, you got by buying the game again.
You know, maybe none of us remember a day when you got a full complete game out of the box. We just remember a day when DLC and patches were an order of magnitude more expensive and distributed in the most appalling way imaginable.
What balance patch are you referring to?He's referring to Turbo.
SF2 was pretty ridiculous though.
Didnt all Street Fighter 2 release have balance fixes?I think his point was that Turbo was just a balance patch. As in there weren't any added characters or anything. And that it came out less than a year after SF2CE.
Besides, Capcom only made more versions because hacked arcade versions were really popular.
You get to play a WHOLE WEEK EARLY ZOMG (:D)Damn, a whole week?! Some games only let you play three days early!
I miss the manuals
An entire generation will never understand the joy of giving a new physical game's instruction manual a good sniff.
They will never know the joy of manuals
the idea of just a 1 time purchase to get a full game with tons of content is goneGoW:R and Horizon Forbidden West were complete games with lots of content.
GoW:R and Horizon Forbidden West were complete games with lots of content. This is also kinda why its an L take because even games with Day 1 DLCs or season passes or even updates offer far more content then their predecessors.
look at games that need post release patches to fix tons of bugs as they where rushed out the doorAs opposed to games that never got patched in the past.
look at games that need post release patches to fix tons of bugs as they where rushed out the doorFinal Fantasy is a mess, it is a wonder that it runs at all.
Final Fantasy is a mess, it is a wonder that it runs at all.Look at fuckin' Pokemon RBY.
Stats that doesnt work as intended, spells that doesnt work at all, weapons not working as intended, tents that saves before restoring your HP/MP so when you load your save you wont have full HP/MP, etc etc.
As opposed to games that never got patched in the past. For starters, that isn't strictly true. That one N64 WWE game is probably the most famous example. You could mail in your cartridge and they'd send you the fixed version back.
For starters, that isn't strictly true. That one N64 WWE game is probably the most famous example. You could mail in your cartridge and they'd send you the fixed version back.Yet the reality is they were still broken games released to some extent.
For continuers, they were a lot less prone to ship them broken in the first place. Perhaps because patching wasn't considered a possibility so they followed more rigorous testing standards in-house, or perhaps because the games were simpler and consequently easier to test thoroughly.
Yet the reality is they were still broken games released to some extent.Sure.
