Hundreds of the worlds leading climate scientists expect global temperatures to rise to at least 2.5C (4.5F) this century, blasting past internationally agreed targets and causing catastrophic consequences for humanity and the planet, an exclusive Guardian survey has revealed.
Almost 80% of the respondents, all from the authoritative Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), foresee at least 2.5C of global heating above preindustrial levels, while almost half anticipate at least 3C (5.4F). Only 6% thought the internationally agreed 1.5C (2.7F) limit will be met.
Many of the scientists envisage a semi-dystopian future, with famines, conflicts and mass migration, driven by heatwaves, wildfires, floods and storms of an intensity and frequency far beyond those that have already struck.
Numerous experts said they had been left feeling hopeless, infuriated and scared by the failure of governments to act despite the clear scientific evidence provided.
I think we are headed for major societal disruption within the next five years, said Gretta Pecl, at the University of Tasmania. [Authorities] will be overwhelmed by extreme event after extreme event, food production will be disrupted. I could not feel greater despair over the future.
Why is it so fucking hard for governments to get on board with fighting climate change?
Why is it so fucking hard for governments to get on board with fighting climate change?Profits
The elites think they will be dead before anything happens.
They legit have bunkers in island countries
have you looked at the price of chocolate/cocoa recently? big part of that is climate change related

maybe it's a bit cynical/transactional to think this way but personally I suspect if this happens to coffee that will really get people acting
"Woke College kids have caused coffee prices to skyrocket by constantly buying them instead of houses" - Fox News probably.
Who is to blame for that phenomenon? Starbucks or Dunkin' Donuts?College students suffering from woke mind virus.
Most of us here will live to see the oceans become too warm and acidic to support life
Republicans: "Just dump a bunch of ice to fix it."The solution was staring right at us the entire time! I guess we should follow through on nuking hurricanes, too?
Most of us here will live to see the oceans become too warm and acidic to support lifeIf that happens, then Earth might be permanently fucked. I sometimes take comfort that other species could take over we are gone. But if the oceans die, I am not sure if they can ever heal. And it could lead to extinction of all life. Or most of it, on the planet

Governments won't act
It wouldn't be the first time. The Earth goes in cycles.Yeah. The planet will survive. The species will be replaced.
Its not just governments faults. Turn off your ACIs this a serious post
It wouldn't be the first time. The Earth goes in cycles. It's really interesting to watch the alt right apologists shift multiple viewpoints over time starting from "there isn't climate change" to "climate change happens naturally and it's totally not our fault, let's all just die as a species gracefully."
RIP humans you had a good run.https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/forum/6/6a9015ab.jpg

This. The earth has been way hotter and way colder numerous times throughout its history. People act like this is something new but it's just what the earth does. It's weird how this point is so rarely addressed by actual scientists.
It's weird how this point is so rarely addressed by actual scientists.
Probably because it's bullshit.
Maybe our descendants will evolve to be able to survive on the hellish habitat we create, so humanity may survive. Is it weird to say I hope not
Maybe
Why is it so fucking hard for governments to get on board with fighting climate change?
It's weird how this point is so rarely addressed by actual scientists. The problem is the temperature is rising magnitudes faster than it ever has naturally, and evolution can't keep up.
Probably because it's bullshit.
Why is it so fucking hard for governments to get on board with fighting climate change?Human prosperity and environmentalism are completely incompatible. And if you try and affect the former in any meaningful capacity enough to actually reverse climate change would make most of humanitys lives miserable.
Human prosperity and environmentalism are completely incompatible. And if you try and affect the former in any meaningful capacity enough to actually reverse climate change would make most of humanitys lives miserable.No. The incompatibility is between the excesses of endgame capitalism and doing something real about climate change.
Miserable enough to wise up and kill any and all overseeing and enforcing it.
Well it's not bullshit but people conveniently leave out the time table on those big swings of temperature because it's pretty bad for their argument when you say things like "The Earth will be average 80 degrees Celsius in 100,000 years"At best that makes it bullshit-adjacent.
This and the threat of nuclear war are why we are flirting with midnight on the doomsday clock. We've been flirting with midnight on the doomsday clock for its entire existence. It's just a fearmongering tool.
