it's like at a much slower pace than ps4s were selling at this stage, any of you read?
Yeah, console sales are horrible this year in general. Xbox Series console sales are down just under 25%, PS5 sales are down just over 25%, and Switch sales are down 38%.

They're still popular and are selling software, but it's just most of the people who want these consoles already have them.

As a PC gamer Ill probably get one to play the Unicorn Overlord collectors edition I bought since Vanillaware hates PC, and Demons Souls / whatever else doesnt get ported, plus to replace my PS4 for PS4 games. But Ill wait on the Pro. It seems like by the time a console is worth getting, the Pro model will be out, so Pro to Pro seems the better cadence.

The only reason for me to get an Xbox is backwards compatibility with a handful of titles that havent been ported or remastered, and I just havent found one cheap enough.

Ive heard xbox is accelerating their plans for next gen to end of 2025/early 2026. Sony is going the pro route which may end up being a mistake. New switch should come within a year

IMO things are too ecosystem oriented now for this to make much difference. If youve invested in the PS ecosystem and have all your trophies and friends and games on there, why would you buy an Xbox and start over just because they come out with a more powerful one first?

By this point in the ps4s life cycle it was pretty much exactly at the same number. So yeah, it's doing fine
I don't believe in belts. There should be no ranking system for toughness.
Sony is still losing money on each PS5 they sell.

They listed hardware losses as less than expected since they sold less systems then their forecast. They actually listed this as a positive in their releases. Yeah I guess.

What do you mean, you doubt they lose money on each one? Console makers always claim they do

Yeah but its been out 4 years. Im sure they hoped they be break even by now. Software sales arent bailing them out anymore.

Thats only a part of what I said. The fact remains if you wait for the next PlayStation, you only need one box under your TV and you can still play all the games you already had, whereas if you get an. Box you now need two boxes under your TV to play new games plus the games you already had. Sticking with one is just easier, more convenient, etc. for most people, and this is the main reason Sony continues to clobber MS ever since the XB1 launch debacle.

People went PS4 because of the XB1 launch fiasco, people went with PS5 because its more convenient than switching.

LOL how does that changed the fact that most of the complaints about XB1 DRM were rectified at launch? If people can't do research and only buy what the media tells them is good then it's their problem.

Ironically the Xbox One ended up being the most consumer friendly due to the reintroduction of backwards compatibility allowing you to play games from back on the original Xbox, and didn't block mods and crossplay unlike the PS4, which also tried to resell PS3 games as "HD collections". And Gamepass made digital ownership pointless anyway.

The resident Sony apologist says what?

https://www.tweaktown.com/news/96494/analysis-why-playstations-profits-are-so-low/index.html

So you're denying the fact that Sony has yet to pay off the Bungie acquisition?

And that they spent more money to produce Spiderman 2 than purchasing Insomniac?

And that their profit margin is so low that they only make $3.60 profit out of every copy of a PS5 game sold?

And now they're forcing PSN accounts to their PC games onward which locks out most of the world?

And what's the share price for MS compared to Sony again? LMAO

None of what you said matters in relation to the post you're quoting. Xbox ending up being (in your opinion, though I do share it) better didn't put them above Sony's PS4. Neither did Gamepass. Those things didn't ultimately matter after "always online, no used games, Kinect required" happened.
In fact, despite everything MS is trying to do, nothing is bringing in any more people to the Xbox brand. Huh. Wonder why. Maybe the guy talking about being ecosystem oriented has a point.

Japanese games are also a factor, though I dont know how much of one. Literally no one I know of who plays a lot of JRPGs has an Xbox, because historically, a lot of those havent even released on Xbox, not because of some contracts or whatever, but because Xbox is so DOA in Japan companies didnt used to consider it worth the effort porting. Thats changed now because all the consoles are x86 architecture so porting is easier, and if youve got a PC port the Xbox port is basically done for you if you just tone the settings down.

Many people got a 360 for Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey, but still used the PS3 for all the other ones. That trend has continued to the present day. I was listening to a JRPG podcast where a couple of people were discussing how subscription services are great value for the consumer, but asking the question do they devalue media and so on. One was basically saying youd have to buy only one game a year without it for a GamePass subscription for a year to mean youre putting more money into the industry, and if you buy at least 2 games, it means youre putting in less. But to do that calculation, they had to go look up what GamePass costs, because neither of them have had an Xbox since Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey, if then. They made comparisons to Spotify and Netflix etc. in regards to how we know Spotify basically pays artists jack shit because the record company keeps the vast majority of what Spotify pays, etc., with a similar situation for Netflix, and talked about what 5at means for game streaming given the different margins etc.

A lot of past stuff continues to bite Microsoft in the ass, and a huge factor is just momentum. If someone8s got like 200 PA games or whatever that just makes switching very hard.

Honestly, feels like recoil/correction is setting in. Video game industry fucking exploded during lockdowns when everyone was trapped inside. Problem with a moonshot, in the economic sense, is everyone loves the ride up and thinks it's going to last forever. No one plans for when it finally gets there, loops around, and starts going down back to Earth.

OK Mr "I don't like it therefore it's a failure". Come back when Sony stops blocking crossplay and mods and allows full backwards compatibility.
