im finished. finalleigh
so i guess i'll type up a quick summary of my thoughts
This genre sucks. I don't know why anyone would want to read about a group of lovestruck high school kids will they won't they'ing for an entire run. You have the main character, who I guess is meant to be relatable for the ppl who read this. She's is a tall, gangly, neurotic high school freshman with crippling self doubt and anxiety. She can hardly make it through a conversation. She is invited to join a music club by some spunky upbeat popular girl upperclassman. The others in the club are the Bitch character, the Manipulator, and the Goddess
The Bitch and the Manipulator are also will they won't they'ing. It's grating. It's fucking insulting, because their relationship is incredibly fucking toxic. It begins with the Manipulator pretending to kill herself in order to gauge the reaction of the Bitch. They become fiendishly codependent and it's painted as a beautiful love that they have. It makes me fucking sick.
The Goddess is a non character. She exists for all the other characters to be like "omg she's so perfect and cool and everyone loves her and wants to be her" - she has next to no presence in the story otherwise
The Bitch and the Manipulator talk about fucking a lot, which is extremely uncomfortable. There are also scenes of them in bed post-coitus, also uncomfortable.
The main character
does
end up developing somewhat. She ends the story still prone to self doubt but has become somewhat responsible and able to navigate conversations and form surface-level acquaintanceships.
I would call this a slow burn that failed to ever ignite. If you are the type to get annoyed when characters act stupid, nonsensical, or pitiable, do not read this. I legit had to take breaks due to how mad I was getting.
Overall, I would not give this any points. I have zero respect for the manga, zero respect for the author, and zero respect for the opinion that this is good. It is universally lauded, somehow
0/10
My fate was the grandest, most brilliant of them all.
