did you
One word that best describes this movie: pretentious. It's basically the Juno of 1999, winning a bunch of awards and being lauded as one of the best movies ever made, but upon rewatch you realize how it was just a product of its time.

I think Kevin Spacey being the lead character kinda makes people look a bit more negative in hindsight than they might have prior to the accusations coming out.

I liked it. It seemed to follow in the footsteps of others in the time period like Matrix and Office Space about hating working those 9-5 office jobs.
Hey now.

fantastic movie. so many different perspectives and emotions.

to answer the topic, my parents got around this by us always basically living in houses that never really had locks on their doors. and they all seemed to have this fucking donut-shaped interior design so doors are on two sides. horrendous.

Disclaimer: There's a good chance the above post could be sarcasm.

My door stayed locked most of the time, especially when I wasn't home.
This is where cool people write stuff.

I didn't hate it, but it's 100% a product of its time. It's a movie that's so full of itself.

But I did laugh my ass off at 2 scenes, the one where the dad thought Kevin Spacey's character was having sex with his son and the plastic bag scene.

You thought plastic bag scene was very funny?

I never liked this take. Sure it's a funny line, but there's nothing wrong with finding/appreciating beauty in simplicity.
Without truth, there is nothing.
Never had that rule but I also never would have even thought about locking my door.

It switches from rolling my eyes to laughing on rewatches sometimes.

I don't know if pretentious is the right word, although you may be right.

Upon rewatch, like Juno, it's definitely a movie that thinks it's more "clever" than other movies.

I always said that about Gilmore Girls whenever I watched it.
It takes zero effort to be a good person.

What's wrong with juno? And wouldn't it be better to compare it to napoleon dynamite and superbad? They're all teen comedies that kids back in high school praised and quoted constantly

american beauty was garbage when I first watched it, and it's still garbage now. The kevin spacey allegations do help to bring it into new light though

Every character is WAY to quirky. The movie just oozes "teenage angst"
