I liked the first Godzilla and Kong movie, so I'll definitely be seeing this eventually. They're right, these types of movies are just dumb fun.

Fact: Nintendo is the best, there is no point denying it.
You could pretty much say that about most Godzilla films. Or even just kaiju films in general. I like the Monsterverse because it recaptures that feeling but also structures and organizes it.

Saw it in theaters and loved every minute of it. Its far from perfect but nobody was asking for that or expecting it.

Glad the Japanese though the same.

Basically you cant really claim the Japanese made Godzilla movies are better and less stupid when you literally had Godzilla gliding on the back of his tail to kick another monster.

I mean, that's how everyone should approach a popcorn action flick. Turn off your brain, this ain't Tenet.

People keep trying to pit this movie against Minus one but they're not in a competition. Even more hilarious is when they try and pit American Godzilla movies against all Japanese ones which are clearly significantly more intelligent.

Gonna see it once it releases on streaming, can't wait.

I for one like the human actors they've had in these movies, and in godzilla vs kong 1 I was really happy to see rebecca hall and alexander skarsgard. However, I don't care for the stranger things girl I don't really see why the critics or even audience love her. Hope she's not in godzilla vs kong 2.

Unironically thought Kong: Skull Island was good. Godzilla 2019 was kinda disappointing in that felt like they blew their load too soon introducing King Ghidorah the 3-headed dragon when I thought he was basically Godzilla's ultimate nemesis. Still fun popcorn movie.

godzilla vs kong 1 was just so dumb that throughout it I was like "yeah sure, that may as well happen" and I was fine with it.

I agree, stupid awesome is the main appeal of these movies. I love it.

That's gotta be the same thing China said when they watched all those Michael Bay Transformers movies.
"You're made of spare parts, aren't ya, bud?"
The series took the wrong turn after King of the Monsters. That was the peak of the Monsterverse. And I'm not just saying that because priority one seems to be making Kong look like a chump next to Godzilla.
Yeah that sounds about right, meant as a compliment to an extent. All hands and feet were on deck the second Kong started using mini kong to beat up the other apes.

I will say this, it solidifies Godzilla as the most flexible character of all time. If you released Batman: The Movie or Batman Forever within a year of The Dark Knight, everyone would have *hated* it.

But you release a silly, late 1960s-style Godzilla movie months after the greatest Godzilla movie of all time and people love the stupid fun that it brings. Godzilla is impervious to tonal whiplash.
The big screen was meant for big monsters. That's why it even exists.

I thought Godzilla x Kong was better than Godzilla vs. Kong in almost every way. Also, Millie Bobby Brown didn't return, so you don't have to worry about her.

Why do people keep saying this? Kong literally turned Godzilla into a side character of his own universe. And the fights they had with each other were very careful to make sure neither one of them came out as clearly superior. They powered Kong way up to even be anywhere close to Godzilla who should have been able to blast his ass six ways to sundown.

Because Kong lacks his aggression, agility, and fighting ability that he has in other films. And because they changed Godzilla's origin without changing Kong's to match.

Godzilla is a mutated dinosaur. Without the atomic bomb, he's the kind of carnivorous beast that would get its jaw and neck broken by Kong. They should drop a bomb on Kong and give him super powers to level the playing field.

Oh, but wait! The Monsterverse changed Godzilla's origin. He's millions of years old and he's always been a radioactive giant. Cool. Then they can change Kong's origin and powers too. He doesn't need to be "just an ape" matched against an enhanced radioactive lizard.

Keep in mind, I'm more a fan of Godzilla than of Kong. But I still believe in a power balance when it fits the characters. If you're going to have Batman vs Spider-Man, have Batman get bitten by a radioactive bat and make the fight fair.

Also, Godzilla being demoted is a point of contention. Why are we following the lesser monster around when there's a stronger monster we should be following? Why is it the Adventure of Robin with special guest star Batman?

I mean, I'm not going to respond to any of your other clearly biased complaints but this one is especially out touch since following the "weaker" characters and not the stronger characters is extremely common to make things more interesting. After all, villains/antagonists in general tend to be stronger than the heroes/protagonists we follow.

Godzilla Minus One just came out and showed these movies don't have to be dumb.

I didn't like Godzilla x Kong, though, because the first half extremely dull. It's a lot of walking around. Godzilla is barely in it until the last 20 minutes.
Kong leading the story just makes a lot more sense tbh. He can emote and communicate with humans and other titans in a way that Godzilla either cant or wont. At least not without deeming his character.

So it makes a lot more sense for him to take lead. Otherwise the humans would have had to and nobody wants that. So this was the best compromise.

As much as I love Godzilla this was a really cool way to frame the last two movies. We've got 30 Godzilla movies already; letting Kong take the lead is a fine change and it made the story a lot more interesting.

In regards to this Godzillas screen time is still around the same as its always been. So he wasnt being sidelined as much as many seem to believe.

Kong doesn't need to match Godzilla in ability because that's not the point. Even with Godzilla vs. Kong, everyone knew well before the movie was even out that they'd team up. These movies are about Kong and Godzilla being Earth's (and by extension, humanity's) defenders.

Should Kong be buffed to be clearly physically stronger than Godzilla is? I think that'd be fair. But again, I don't think it really matters all that much.
Ah, yes, the Negotiator: General Kenobi
<sneaky beeping>
Making their power levels match equally would be stupid and missing the point. Kong is supposed to represent nature and its inherent gentleness, while Godzilla is supposed to represent humanity and its penchant for destruction.

Also, Kong doesn't need a high power level because he's clever. Godzilla, on the other hand, doesn't need to be clever because he's literally a walking nuke.

Godzilla is shown to be extremely intelligent and clever in the Monsterverse though. Especially when it comes to combat intelligence. I think it might be more fair to say that Godzilla doesn't really need to rely on tools like Kong does.

Also, I'm not sure for this particular version of Godzilla that I agree with your first point either. This is a version of Godzilla that mostly goes out of his way to avoid causing destruction towards humans. Monsterverse Godzilla is driven by preserving some kind of natural balance between humanity, the Titans, and the rest of nature. But he still has the will to dominate to achieve that goal.
Ah, yes, the Negotiator: General Kenobi
<sneaky beeping>
Godzilla IS clever, sure, but he doesn't necessarily NEED to be as much as Kong does. And sure, he's not going to blow up a city for the hell of it, but when he's fighting, he doesn't particularly care if he destroys most of the city in the process.

Godzilla Minus One is definitely a better movie, but oh geez is Godzilla x Kong just mindless fun. And, honestly, the latter is more likely to get my movie ticket. I'd rather watch a good movie at home in comfort, but at a theater, I usually just want loud, bombastic excitement.
