I mean, all the content that's created isn't necessarily from "us", but the content that we make is undeniably awful often, if not usually. Same w/ reality tv and idiot streamers doing stupid shit out in public, or especially in other countries.
My implication is that, regardless of China's insane restrictions, they know that much of this content is harmful, and wouldn't allow it to be viewed, but they'll gladly serve it to us (especially young people) in all you can eat format.
These are words straight out of a CCP activist's lol.
This is the same thing as the not actually a ban right? The one where they just need to not be owned by a Chinese company that has to let China access all their data if China asks right?Theyve already moved the severs from china to the US. So this is all about the goverment just inserting a puppet as head to control its content.
You seem really invested in letting China do whatever they want.
Somehow everythjng they do is someone elses fault.
Words straight out of a CCP activist's laugh out loud?
The shit post side of me wants to say yay, but the reality is the reasoning they're using is very stupid. "National security" when it is known that even American social media apps sends their information over to the government as well.
For everyone that doesn't seem to understand how bad TikTok is, here are just a few things -
Tiktok pushing self-harm content via algorithm

One former employee alleging that TikTok user information is not safe from China

Another employee, this time w/ more evidence -

TikTok is uniquely awful, even for social media. It's awful in virtually every way, and there's nothing good that it provides that can't be handled by another existing site / app.
It is not uniquely awful. Nazis literally get endorse on Twitter and the racism goes thru the roof. You no why TikTok is the only thing targeted.
Slipping unrelated shit into bills like this should be fucking illegal.
That same content is also on TikTok - as well as the issues I've already outlined. TikTok's algorithm and the way it feeds content, especially to young people, is much worse than any other site. The problem is that its only and specifically tiktok getting hit.
And, as I've said multiple times, I'm not excusing or giving passes to any of the American / non-Chinese companies, they all need to be hit hard as well.
Look by all means form your own opinion on this. Or more likely have Tiktok form it for you.One of the worst appeals to authority ive ever seen
But regardless of whether you are right, left or center, your elected representatives who are significantly more informed than you agree that this is harmful without making any sort of judgement on whether the app is good or bad.
Which is why it will get spun off by Byte Dance like good little capitalists.

your elected representatives who are significantly more informed than youAhh yes, elected representatives are known to be very knowledgeable about tech.

That was mostly a courtesy statement. No, you don't get to dodge the half-dozen people clowning on your dumb post.
That was mostly a courtesy statement.Lmao now appealing to the authority above the representatives that you totally werent appealing to in the first post
Even Republicans can understand the threat when briefed by their staff and national security experts.

Social media like TikTok does need some sort of regulation. You can tell who on CE gets all their news from TikTok and their mindset is just bizarre and unhealthy from being told what to thinkNever used TikTok, even though some friends tried to get me into it. Doesn't mean I support the government telling private companies how to operate.
