Expecting mid-high 80s for it based upon the demo. The thing that worries me about it is that it has become a cultural flashpoint game. Can reviewers, of any stripe, remain objective with reviewing it or are we going to see reviews that dive into culture war issues surrounding the character designs?

I liked what I played in the demo, but I definitely have a feeling it's going to be a case of Lies of P where it's good, but not genre defining enough to stand out. However, I'm primarily a PC gamer now so I won't even get the game until it comes out on PC and it's on sale.

From the sound of it, they didn't do themselves any favor trying to compare their story and characters to Nier Automata. With that said, I'm glad the gameplay is still solid and digital foundry said the game runs really well on the PS5.

Remember when Polygon deducted 2 points from Bayonetta 2 just for having lewd content?
The game "journalism" industry has gotten so much worse in the past decade since then.
It's definitely gonna end up in the 70's at best , because too many have an extremist axe to grind.

As long as it doesn't end with "omg, turned out the game is a broken mess and borderline scam" I'm fine.

~8/10 is more than solid enough for me after playing the demo myself.

I agree as well. It's more important to see what their pros and cons are rather than just blindly looking at a score because at the end of the day it's all subjective so trying to put a score on art is going to vary greatly from one person to another.

Yeah, if it's under a 6/10 or a 7/10 that's enough to take note on if it's purchased, but most people get too focused on either specific scores and/or how they relate to other games.

I still maintain that the shitshow with GameSpot's 8.8 Twilight Princess score never would have happened if they gave it a 9.0, which is even ridiculous since that point difference is too small to begin with.

This is why I generally prefer opencritic to metacritic because they contextualize the game's quality (or lack there of) better. At the end of the day you really only want to know if a game is recommended or not.
