Thats awesome, do you know if there was anything in particular you said that got her to watch it? Im trying to get my own mom to check it out.
Both my parents are huge fans of Justified, so Goggins did most of heavy lifting there. The soundtrack and retro aesthetics did the rest, she's a sucker for 50's Americana and classic movies.
I watched the first two eps on my own, and was confident enough that they'd like it if they gave it a chance; so I just asked that they give it a shot with the first two eps, then give me their honestly opinions on whether or not they wanted to stick with it. My mom was the most interested in sticking with it; my dad's got too much of that underlying father-knows-best pride to admit to liking anything that I recommend, lol. Thankfully it ended up being one of those shows that only got better as the season went on, so by the end she really enjoyed it and is looking forward to S2.
They also admitted that it helped that I was there to explain certain facets of the lore to them out of the gate. Having seen the entire season I can see why the showrunners told / revealed things the way they did, but imo the first ep's still a little bit shaky in onboarding people who are new to the franchise.
Any (spoiler-tagged, of course) tips on what might need explaining? Ive watched the whole season too and nothing in particular is coming to mind. Thanks in advance and thank you as well for the other advice youve given!
So I finished it last night. Really enjoyed it overall, even if it was generally super predictable
I think you guys maybe aren't giving your parents enough credit? I went in completely blind and didnt really struggle to understand anything.
I will say, I don't really get the Walter Goggins hype. Sure he was fine, but he didn't exactly stand out to me
I am thoroughly impressed by the acting skills of Walter Goggins. If he is not a method actor I dont know who is.
Everything else in the first episode seems like fan pandering but true to the Fallout game for sure.
Erm... I seriously hope he didn't do method prep for this role.https://youtu.be/Wfg1c8dyZYM?si=njnuWu-BMgYY23eB
When Cooper gave the thumbs up grin for the photo, I giggled like a little girl. Its Vault Boy!

then murdering and eating dozen of people.
Why would he do that? He's not a feral ghoul...

Sometimes a fella's gotta eat a fella.
Ass jerky doesnt make itself you know
I mostly meant I hope he wasn't doing a ridiculous amount of drugs then murdering and eating dozen of people. Its funnier to think method acting as in standing in a huge amount of radiation to become a ghoul

Hope season two doesnt get sidetracked from the main story with settlement building
Any time she goes to do something, her Pip Boy will buzz telling her a nearby town is being attacked.
Wasn't there a meta-joke along these lines in ep 3? Something like "Law of the wasteland: though shalt always get sidetracked by bullshit."
Lmao yes indeedyIt was great me and my buddy laughed at that one
That is something I wish they would have at least touched on. I don't remember the specifics, but I got the impression ghouls were made from experimentation/drug cocktails, but the last episode made it seem like it was to do with the nukes. This is the one thing the show does actually retcon with no explanation. Ghouls are indeed created by radiation. That's why Cooper tells Lucy he's going to turn into him when she drinks the irradiated water.
Again, never played or really know much at all about the games. Doesn't change anything not knowing, but Mama Ghoul kinda made me go 'wait, how?'

The drug they take is new to this show and breaks a good number of things about ghouls in the games.

I hope season 2 has an episode withCazadors and they make them almost as terrifying as I'm sure they'll try to make the inevitable Deathclaw scene. I was actually even more terrified of them than any other enemy type in NV lol
The whole super mutant thing (or lack of) still bugs me. The line where some person sees The Ghoul and asks "is that a mutant?" makes it seem they had no clue what a mutant is.
Super Mutants were being made all over America, not just in California. Even in Fallout 4, I think it was implied that Super Mutants were still being made

Filly looked very familiar from Fallout 4? When you go to look up the detective ghoul (or was that a robot?) Am I even thinking of the right game?
My friend and I were actually debating on whether Filly looked more like Megaton (FO3) or Diamond City (FO4)yeah i think they purposely had elements reminiscent of both
I think it prevents them from going feralOhhhhh, I really like that idea.in that it makes them go feral if they stop taking it
