Apparently part of the settlement or whhatever between AEW and Punk was that he wasn't allowed to talk about the incident

Which he did during that interview

I believe that was the him and Ace Steel vs Omega and the young bucks incident.

It does make Tony Khan's side somewhat believable. You can see Punk try to tear away from being held and go towards someone at the table off-screen on the right. Presumably Tony Khan was sitting there at the Gorilla Position table.
"It was horrible," guard Jeff McInnis said.

lol Tony Khan feared for his life!

I mean as it stood Punk got to act like the rational chill one in the interview without any proof to the contrary and this shows him well, if nothing else, instigating the physical force

...So that was their attempt at the whole single shot segment-to-segment thing WWE's been trying lately

People in the back get into fights all the time. It's nothing new. Just ask Chris Jericho and Brock Lesner. Booker T and Batista.

They're very famous and isolated incidents right? At least in the last ~25 years

I actually am a big punk fan, he cuts a terrific promo, but I don't think it's unfair to say his view of himself is a little warped

Post #10 in this topic sums up it better than I could. Why does Punk get to be "the one in the right" yet again the tenth time he's had major beef with someone

Tony Khan: OMG I feard for my life!

*Brock Lesner gets back into gorrila and he is pissed and throws the title at Vince's head.*

Because everyone in wrestling is out to get him. The anti-Punk conspiracy runs so deep that CM Punk himself is in on it, given some of the stories he himself has told that make him look bad.

I'm more asking why AEW thinks it benefits their product to show backstage footage that relates to a wrestler who got fired nearly a year ago and now works for the biggest competitor.

Especially since WWE specifically loves taking advantage of smark drama to give their feuds and promos more legitimacy. Something they have already done with Punk.

This does prove Punk started the physical confrontation, but otherwise... What was the point of this?

I extrapolated. I could have gone harder on your "fights backstage happens all the time" comment, which was true in like.. the 1980s.

Nah, they still happen. Jericho vs Sin Cara happened in 2016, Cara vs Gotch, too. Oh, Jericho vs Brock happened in 2016. . wow, I'm learning a lot right now looking these up, lol

It's overall hard to say how common or uncommon fights backstage are. Like Kurt Angle said a few years ago that Undertaker choked him out on a plane back in the day. But he didn't raise a fuss about it so it didn't matter. It wasn't news it was an anecdote.

I think for the most part there's not as much drama between the guys these days but who knows.

Wrestling is a really weird business in general. There's a culture of paying dues, receipts etc.
A Fallen Mascot
I guess there's such a notable decrease from the Bruiser Brody days, that Booker T/Batista, Jericho/Goldberg and HBK/Hitman backstage fights become things of folklore. And now Punk/Perry

Cornette and co makes it seem there was like 3 of them a week in the '80s lol

He makes it sounds so calm, and not that he aggressively shoves JB twice, fails a guillotine choke, attempts a sucker punch after they get pulled about and he gets pulled away from the gorilla position hopping up and down while screaming. But the way he puts it "Oh I just put a tiny little choke on him, Samoa Joe calmly walks over to me and says "Please CM Punk Pleas Stop" and I let go under my own power and turned around and farted marshmallows and said this place is a joke and then I calmly walked away".

Also for the brainlets, there were multiple reports that CM Punk had it out with Tony in the locker room and we have no idea what he did there.

Yep, this is basically what I feel too. Punk is not this chill, calm, logical guy and it's insulting he's trying to retroactively make it seem like he is

Pretty sure thats not him.

On another hilarious note. The official upload of the segment on AEWs YouTube channel doesnt have the footage included.

I at the time, watched the link posted here on a phone in a smaller window. So it was hard for me tell what happened. But hey they showed the footage it seems and it wasn't just some re-enactment joke. It looked like CM punk went for Jungle Boy errr Jack Perry. And then a scrum ensued. I think it was one of those you had to be there moments, though I liked some staff member at the end walking away with his hands over his face.

CM Punk can't even wrestle at the moment. The guy just pops up for the odd segment with Drew McIntyre. Who coincidentally is in a feud where he is obsessed with Punk to his own detriment and isn't focused on his matches.

They're just keeping Punk in the headlines and the minds of people even though he can't perform. They're doing the work of WWE and Punk for them. Absolutely embarrassing.

Haha thanks for the correction. I don't know who all these people are even if I saw it on a bigger screen. Of course Samoa Joe was super obvious he was just getting ready to the left.

I really hope this entire thing is a work and Triple H is going to do a WWE x AEW angle. I don't know if this was the topic, but Drew isn't even signed to the WWE right now. I kind of wish he shows up on AEW to side with The Bucks

I only got to watch the first hour of AEW before I left, and between airing that, Osprey, and FTR's promos, they looked like a fucking Mickey Mouse league. Pathetic.

I'd be absolutely shocked if they didn't renew his contract considering they're going to Glasgow for Clash at the Castle later this year.

The guy just screams money at the moment with how he works social media and his feud with Punk.

From what I can tell from what CM Punk stated, and what is shown.

CM Punk left out the fact that he started the physical altercation by pushing Jack Perry 2x.

Jack Perry went for a double-leg take down.

CM Punk caught him with a choke.

Some punching each other from both sides is going on during the choke

Everybody rushes to break things up.

Samoa Joe & HOOK hold back Jack Perry.

Chris Hero & somebody else that looked was holding CM Punk back.

I think studying every single potential movement to pick who is right or wrong is a waste of time honestly. Of course people are going to downplay or exaggerate their perspective to make themselves look better. I don't think Tony Khan would be fearing for his life either nor was anyone 'endangered'

It's a scuffle that would barely register as a big deal in high school between two carnies that lead to one of them leaving the company.

Trying to base a product around this is where things get into the absurd. Talk about it all they like on podcasts or interviews. Upload it on social media. But hyping this up and showing it during a live show and trying to work an angle out of it when the guy left 8 months ago is sad.

Not to fans who care, there are plenty of fans who do care about the truth of the situation.

So it does matter to them.

TK is a pampered rich boy, he probably has NEVER been in a physical fight in his life.
Any sort of "Real Fighting" would be scary to him and he think he was "Endangered".
He wouldn't know how to handle himself since he's not trained & most likely has 0 experience.

Unlike most of the talent he's hired who are trained to fight.

It's a scuffle that would barely register as a big deal in high school between two carnies that lead to one of them leaving the company.
In a professional environment, one that is very corporate like TK is running, he most likely frowns on real fighting.

It's what TK wants to do, for better or worse.

But the most important thing is that it highlights who is the real trouble maker.

That is CM Punk, he started the physical altercation.

Jack Perry is vindicated, he wasn't the aggressor.

I do think some rivalries are healthy. Also the mention that Drew MAC, may jump ship is funny or AEW and WWE planning this long long ruse to fool us all in the supposed Triple H era is very Space Odyssey. Anyhow. Pro (entertainment) Wrestling is really fun. I liked to follow it just lately I've just been bummed out and don't really want to put my passion into watching the shows and just occasionally catch a big story here or there or read a website news.
