It's been trying to force the new layout since late 2023.

I call it the "2023 new" layout to distinguish it from "new" reddit that preceded it.
For a while I was stuck w/ it and I could change www.reddit to new.reddit to force it back. Then somehow I went back to the original "new" on the subreddits and 2023 new on user pages and that trick didn't work.
Today it again forced me to the 2023 new layout but now new.reddit works again to avoid it.

I don't know WTF is going on, but presumably eventually they plan to force us all to that "mobile-friendly" abomination w/ no way out of it.

Yeah, it's weird because for the last few weeks, I would get this garbage design when I went to my user profile, but sometimes that would also just be "new" reddit.

It's fucking awful on mobile, the new layout is trash and is laggy I wish you could go back to the old version.

It's done it a few times for me, and I just go to the user settings and click "opt out of redesign" at the bottom to set it back.

Someone said you coul type in new.reddit.com or old.reddit.com to change the layout but those kind of both look bad on my phone

Yeah, I'm not sure. I understand some of the other stuff, but I don't see how a redesign actually affects them at all.
