New FBI data confirms previous indications that crime in the U.S. declined significantly in 2023, continuing a post-pandemic trend and belying widespread perceptions that crime is rising.
The new fourth-quarter numbers showed a 13% decline in murder in 2023 from 2022, a 6% decline in reported violent crime and a 4% decline in reported property crime. Thats based on data from around 13,000 law enforcement agencies, policing about 82% of the U.S. population, that provided the FBI with data through December.
It suggests that when we get the final data in October, we will have seen likely the largest one-year decline in murder that has ever been recorded,
ReportedFor what?
not according to trump and the republicans its notThey would never lie, so I guess it's true!
For what?
That can't be right - all the ILLEGALS are murdering and plundering at an all time high!
People don't want to be shot by these trigger happy cops"Not doing crime" has hardly stopped the cops from killing people before.
Republican narrative in shambles. You'll never hear this on Fox. So it simply didn't happen.
Or would be if they were capable of integrity and shame.
not according to trump and the republicans its not
Republican narrative in shambles.Plus, conservatives own much of the mass media, anyway.
Or would be if they were capable of integrity and shame.
Mostly feels the same.
Republican narrative in shambles.Their usual angle is to either pretend it's still bad. Or if it's harder to pretend it's still bad, claim the evidence presented to them isn't the real evidence.
Or would be if they were capable of integrity and shame.
Eh this doesn't seem to be entirely accurate. Hundreds of not thousands of videos of crimes are posted everyday online, and those are the ones that were recorded. Pretty sure a decent amount of criminals manage to get away with their crimes too. Considering that and how many mass shootings we have it's definitely still a good idea to keep your head in a swivel. Not trying to say things haven't been improving under Biden or anything. Mostly feels the same.

Yeah, but I don't FEEL safer because the news keeps telling me I'm not because a democrat is in office!
Mostly feels the same. How did the line go?
Just remember these stats are REPORTED crimes and stuff that doesn't get reported doesn't get added to the stats. It's like that with some police departments.Just remember what you are trying to spin was also happening under dear leader Trump. Crime during Trumps presidency was stats that was "REPORTED crimes and stuff that doesn't get reported doesn't get added to the stats."
Just remember what you are trying to spin was also happening under dear leader Trump. The biggest drawback to those nationwide crime reports is it's only for reported crimes. That's how it's been. I'm just stating the truth, no bias on my end.
Crime didn't suddenly stop being reported when Biden became president, "so we can hide the real numbers."
Do you think thats a recent thing that didnt happen at similar rates in the past? It's most definitely happened. A good way for police to get better budgets is to show crime is down across the board and it looks like they're doing their jobs.
Democrats and Biden need to actually message this more.
Message more on crime and the economy doing much better.
It's true Republicans are lying it's bad, but Biden/Democrats are kind of just letting them lie by not really pushing consistently just how much of a lie it is. They will comment every once in a while about it, but the American independent and swing voters have the memory of a goldfish. You have to constantly and consistently remind them crime is down and the economy is doing much better than Trumps presidency.
The biggest drawback to those nationwide crime reports is it's only for reported crimes. That's how it's been. I'm just stating the truth, no bias on my end.You aren't saying anything. What you are saying applies to all presidential terms. Not just Bidens.
Need to be careful on this, actually. If you start to come out and say that crime is coming down, people can turn against you if they do not feel that crime is clming down--even if you have the stats to back it up.People feel crime isnt down despite the facts because unfortunately Republicans are just better at messaging. Ultimately controlling people's feelings.
At the end of the day, people's feels matter a lot. Even if they aren't always rational.
But do you think that there is any recent trend of non reporting at a different rate than in the past?In places where talking to the police can get you killed definitely. Also a lot of petty crimes don't get reported due to people not wanting to deal with the paperwork and such. Bigger crimes like murder and stuff are down though. You can't really fake murder stats.
You aren't saying anything. What you are saying applies to all presidential terms. Not just Bidens.I never said it didn't. You're the one taking this as a swipe at Biden, I'm just saying there's a flaw in the reporting.
So you are trying to spin this the "real numbers" bs. You want facts? Crime was worse under Trump, and the nationwide crime report only applying to reported crimes applies to your dear leader too. Meaning those "real numbers" you are alluding to were even worse under Trump.
And you think thats a recent trend going upwards where more people are being killed by cops just for talking to them, but also murder states are reliable? There's the tricky part, I think cop shootings are their own stats if I remembered correctly. So they don't count towards murders and such.
