So rather than do her one job as a voter who votes based on issues, shes complaining that Biden didnt talk about every single issue important to her in an hour-long address, instead of looking into his policies and legislative goals/wins to determine where he lands on those issues.

Meanwhile Im sure if she listened to a Trump rally shed believe everything he said he wanted to do because he was bombastic, and spend zero time seeing if his record aligns with the issues she cares about.

Oh, and she works in healthcare and reproductive rights are important to her.

We are so fucked.
I read through that and didn't get that same vibe.

She pointed out what issues are important to her, and then went over which ones he covered (Abortion, Teacher Pay Raises), and then talked about the ones he didn't cover.

Seemed like a pretty blah review of his speech from an "undecided".

I kinda feel the same way she does. I have a few set "deal breaking" issues (mostly social) that 100% has me voting for Biden again. Im 46 years old and live a very simple middle class suburban lifestyle.

When people argue about The Economy my thoughts are My bills are paid, my kids are fed. Could it be better? Yes. Could it be worse? Also yes. Ill worry about what the Dow and my 401k are when Im 60, not 46. I'm admittedly not educated on the issues enough to talk about lowering inflation or what the jobs report means for my wallet.

So when it come to politics and Picking a side I lean on social issues. One party is actively trying to take peoples rights away. Reproductive rights from people like my 18 year old daughter. LGBTQ rights like my brother in law and his husband. Paths to citizenship that the best man at my wedding used to become a US Citizen.

So I side with the Party that is actively fighting to protect those rights.

To take bigblu89's post even further:

I'm sure there are many Americans that have issues Biden didn't cover in his speech, but personally, no president will be able to start tackling them until we squash this entire "other" party that wants to drag God into every one of those issues (at worst).

anyone 'undecided' at this point is just too stupid to exist tbh. you have a guy who is currently potus that has done p well and actually tried to make the country and its people better off facing a guy that was a bottom 3 potus of all time who committed dozens of crimes while trying to overthrow democracy

I was listening to this story on the radio this morning and just confused by this woman.

She's like "I care about women's body autonomy, social security, health care for everyone and the military." Like how the fuck are you undecided? Trump actively and openly hates all of those things.

This seems like very "head in the sand" viewing on her part, mixed in with a bit of "This isn't happening where I live" privilege.

There's a difference between my viewpoint of "I'm not smart enough to look at the economics to know which candidate is better for my wallet" and "I know my stance on abortion and reproductive rights, I know the candidates stances, and I'm still undecided."

Remember Ken Bone posting an ask me anything on his reddit account afterwards and everyone finding all his posts on inflation porn?

Anyway I think he was still somehow undecided after the debate he was part of. These are not thoroughbreds we're dealing with here.

What policy did he not talk about? Dude talked about tax codes, the border bill, infrastructure, inflation, shrinkflation, reproductive rights, and a dozen other subjects. So these 'undecided' voters sound like morons.

Dude refused to even acknowledge he voted for Trump, years later. I assume out of shame.

Anyone who is genuinely undecided between D and R in 2024 is necessarily a moron.

Suddenly reminded of one of my Government professors. First day of class, since I was in his course during an election year, he literally said "The biggest political lie everyone tells themselves and will tell you are: They are Independent Voters. No such thing."

I just can't see the wisdom and dignity in claiming you are undecided when we know who the candidates are going to be, and have actual experience with how the worse one will function when they have power.

I mean the fact that 39% of voters are registered Democrat, and 28% are registered Republican, should tell you everything about the 'independent' voters. They're just ashamed of voting Republican, but have no problems doing it.

State of the Union addresses are useless pablum.

Their value is in the meta and narratives that media pull from the presentation and drama.

This.

Undecided voters are people who have a modicum of humility so they can't just outright say "I support christofascist dictatorships".

Enough humility to suffer embarassment, not nearly enough to actually reflect on why they feel that embarassment and consider changing their viewpoints.

This is the correct answer.
It is impossible to live in the past, difficult to live in the present, and a waste to live in the future.

comparing this undecided shit with independent voters is pretty moronic

regardless of feelings on independent voters, the mentality expressed here enables republicans and ensures theyll always be around to bother us.
