Dallas specifically, for work training.

Will I get a lot of looks if Im Asian? Im guessing yes, if Im heading to a BBQ restaurant.
Also, does everyone carry guns there? Open or concealed.

I visited a friend who lived just outside the DFW area, and it basically looked like upstate New York to me.

Dallas proper looks like any other big city.

You have to go pretty far out to get to the "shit kicking" part of Texas.
It takes zero effort to be a good person.

Dont believe all that media garbage youve been exposed to. Ive been to Texas several times and Ive never seen anyone with a gun. No one will give a damn that youre Asian. Especially in Dallas, one of the largest cities in the country. Go, have fun, enjoy the BBQ, and dont worry about all that other nonsense.

Dallas is a highly highly diverse city with a large Asian population. Carrollton area I believe is big for lots of Asian food.

Don't let the doomer shit you've heard about Texas influence you on this, especially since you'll be in one of the largest cities in the US.

Texan here.

You're a lot less likely to get looks or strange treatment in Dallas than you would be some of the podunk towns in TX. I mean, the whole metroplex down there has a population of close to 8 million folks, and a lot of people there do business with people from all over the world, so you won't stand out quite as much as you'd think.

Also I can't remember the last time I saw someone carrying a gun who wasn't a cop, so I don't think you have much to worry about there, either. Some people do have them in their trucks, though.

For where you're going, your biggest worry should be the traffic. Try to avoid being out there when everyone's getting off work or going to lunch, if you can.

God the traffic is a fucking nightmare, They built that big fucking highway and all it did was give us even bigger traffic and shit head drivers but oh man I can't fucking stand those people who try to merge just because they see that lane is moving slightly faster than the other..

How do the toll roads work around there? I'm being issued a rental car while I'm there. I live in Hawaii where we have no toll roads. From looking at Google Maps, there are no physical toll booths, just places that scans your transponder tag or take a pic of your license plate. Is it easy to pay online so that the costs don't get forwarded to the rental company?

no. Texas has lots of diversity. I mean yea theres racists but if youre going to cities then you certainly wont stick out.
More to do with the humidity than heat

Texas has problems, as everyone is aware. The places that arent city adjacent can be abominable. But it also has some of the biggest cities in the country, which are just as unique and diverse as any other.

Texas despite what everyone says, isnt a bad place. Just have idiot politicians who stacked the deck in their favor.

good people, race doesnt matter and good food. Traffic however is horrible and if you drive slow expect to tail gated or ran over. Off the road most people are good.

there are tons of asians in dfw
dallas proper is where i see the LEAST amount of guns at work (i see them far more in podunk ass red towns)
dallas is also where you're least likely to get judged on how you look

there's just certain intersections you should avoid if possible, such as 635/forest lane

This. I'm reporting in as an Asian who's lived in Houston and DFW my whole life. Honestly, racism towards Asians are incredibly rare here, so you should be fine.

As for bbq, be sure to check out Hard 8 Pit and Hutchins BBQ.
