She had kidney cancer in 2018 (coincidentally, she discovered it just as I recovered from Hodgkin's Lymphoma). She ended up having the entire kidney removed and was given an all clear after that. For the last several years she's had intermittent scans and blood work to keep an eye on things and nothing has popped up.

During her final CT scan late last year apparently something seemed off, so her oncologist ordered an MRI to get a closer look at things. Apparently there was a sizable mass discovered near where her kidney used to be, right near her liver. She has an appointment with her oncologist next week and has been a wreck since she found out.

I'll admit I'm incredibly nervous myself. Particularly since this didn't show up on previous scans, I don't know what that means for the speed this thing popped up/spread.

I spent a good chunk of my 20s caught up in my own personal crap, so now that I have a good career lined up with more free time/money I was looking forward to spending more time with her once I graduated college this spring. I thought I had more time. Maybe I will. I certainly hope. I hope it's nothing or it's something that can be fixed or treated. I always assume the worst.

fuck cancer

No one deserves to have cancer. It is by far the most horrid disease known to mankind. What's it going to take for us to finally discover an actual cure for it?

Fucking cancer.
It is impossible to live in the past, difficult to live in the present, and a waste to live in the future.

constant research. some cant be cured. it's our dna that becomes too damaged to destroy a cancer cell before it starts multiplying.

My mom had cancer twice as well...so far she's kept it back so...I hope the same outcome can be realized for your mother Doom.
Thats a really shitty hand shes been dealt. Im also a cancer survivor and have been all clear for a long time now, but the fear that it will come back never really goes away.

Sympathies, dude.

My condolences my dad passed away a couple months ago.
Frostmourne hungers.
Thanks for the messages everyone.

I slept like shit last night. I can't stop thinking about it.

When I visited yesterday my Dad was a rock though. He was unconcerned. Man wasn't nervous/sad (or didn't show it) but was stable and kept saying "it's something that could be nothing".

He's convinced that Mom is working herself up over "something that might be nothing" and is going way too far with the talk of "Cancer's back and I might be dead soon".

We're very lucky he's here lol

Wishing you both the best, but I also want to tell you not to give up hope. If she beat it before, she can definitely do so again. Definitely listen to her doctors and take their advice, but remember to stay positive throughout.

Hell, my grandma beat cancer three times, and she was well into her 70s the last time. Tough old lady is still living next door to me today.
Fuck cancer.

My dad was diagnosed with terminal cancer in September 2020. My grandmother was diagnosed with terminal cancer in October 2020.

My grandmother lasted 18 months. My dad is nearing the end now.

Sucks.

It's difficult but try to stay strong for her and enjoy every moment you have with her
Common sense says it may not taste good, but it'll make a turd.
I sympathize.

My dad was in remission for 15+ years and it showed back up last year. He's got an aggressive oncologist and they're already aggressively treating it.

So I honestly know how you feel. Except the career part. I haven't been as blessed/lucky there. But the cancer part, I get you on.
