I can hear you now, "Pssssh but Neon "Titty Meister" Octopus, why bother when those professional 911 nerds can do it better than I ever could?"
I'm gonna give you a timeline:
-You're hanging out with a family member and leave the room for 1 minute. You come back and see them on the floor.
-You call 911 and explain what happened. That's another minute.
-911 has to process the call and allocate the available and appropriate units. That's 2 minutes.
-We get receive the call and gotta make our way over there, that can take like 3 minutes or more depending on traffic conditions
That's at least 7 minutes where no circulation is going on in their body. Brain damage starts at 6 minutes >_>
But if you know CPR, you can hop on that motherfucking chest right away and circulate blood into their organs and slow down brain damage by a lot before the pros get there. So learn CPR.
"Cool! Which organization should I get it from?"
I'm sure all of them are fine. But most healthcare professionals use American Heart Association. Generally classes are 4 hours and good for 2 years. Sometimes you can find refresher classes to renew your cert that's cheaper and shorter too.
"What happens if I don't have mouth protection? I don't want to get herpes from Aunt Ellen >_>"
Then don't give them air >_> The chest compressions are so much more important. Don't endanger yourself unless you actually know they're clean; just go 100% on the chest then.
Thus concludes my PSA from your resident Titty Meister. Learn CPR >_> I've brought back too many people that just become brain dead cuz they got no treatment before we got there. Learn it. Love it. Live it.
