iirc, South Korea is one of the world's hotspots for plastic surgery.

there might be some idols without work done, but it's probably not that likely.

Starvation and plastic surgery.

I say that mostly jokingly, however South Korea does actually have a very pro-plastic surgery attitude and it's rather common. I used to listen to this Korean host on a channel called Korea Today who had a guest one time talk about how frequent plastic surgery clinics are seen along the streets and it's rather reasonably priced since it's so widely available.

I try not to overly focus on it because I don't stigmatize the practice, however Karina from Aespa is one of the few that I'm convinced got work because she is unnaturally beautiful. I've seen people say it of Momo from Twice, but I don't really care enough to investigate cause like I said, it doesn't bother me.

Oh, also, it must be the idol's uncoerced choice to get such surgeries. I've seen accusations of labels forcing/coercing them into getting it and absolutely fuck that. Lock up anybody who would do such a thing.

it's not only the pop stars. korean actors and actresses all get work done to look perfect and chiseled.

seriously, take a look at any recent big time movie or tv show from korea. it's really common. but as said before, i believe it's acceptable and sometimes even encouraged.

The abuse dealt out by K-pop corporations is well known. Trainees are restricted on who they can contact and enter relations with, and most of the revenues goes to the corporations and their teams of songwriters from some European countries. And considering that South Korea's hypercapitalism makes the USA's look tame, with very little trade unions or agencies for artists' rights.

A bigger problem is that much of these abuses are whitewashed out under the guise of "Korean cool", and if a Western music corporation did the same to its artists, it would be protested to oblivion. Instead I've seen many uncritical K-pop stans who unironically think BTS is "revolutionary" when it's just one of the hundreds churned out by the same K-pop machine. Wake me up with the South Korean music industry produces its own 2pac or RATM.

It does exist but they're not really mass marketed towards any foreign audiences. Also the ones that existed from the 90s to 00s mostly sang about safe subjects. During this time most Chinese youths listened to HK and Taiwanese pop artists such as the likes of Jay Chou and Andy Lau, many of whom are still well regarded in the Chinese diaspora.

The ones nowadays mostly come from talent shows and such, with many trying to ape K-popstars, but there are some genuine talents like Zhou Shen who is quite an accomplished vocalist.

Not Fenris, however the only 2 Chinese pop artists I know of are Jackson Wang and a member of K-pop group (G)-Idle, Song Yuqi. Wang is based out of Hong Kong and Yuqi is living in Korea, however has been a part of Chinese shows and stuff. She also knows how to play the guzheng really well.

There was a YouTube video of South Korean young men reacting to North Korean young women who were considered beautiful. Lots of comments about how the North Korean girls resemble old pictures of their grandmothers as young adults.
