Current Events » Ever since I got married last month, my body seems to have given up
- Injured my knee hiking 3 weeks ago and now don't seem to be able to run at all, which exacerbates...

- Gain weight super fast when not doing a lot of cardio. No metabolism to speak of

- Abs are so sore from just doing some exercises at the gym on Monday and can hardly get up from a sitting or laying down position

- Went to the eye doctor a few days ago and need really strong bifocals

- Hair loss is accelerating on top

It's like my body is like, "okay, we held on long enough for you to date and find someone. You did it, so we're done now. Time to fall apart".

46 btw

It happens when you're secure. I've been with my girlfriend for five years and have been pretty letting myself go since we moved in a while ago.

Been meaning to get more exercise again because yeah I don't want to just give up now that I have a partner.

Not really

And yeah, I am old. When I got divorced in 2016, I was capable of running half marathons, going out 5 or 6 nights a week with friends or dates, swiping on multiple dating apps all day long.

Now that just sounds exhausting af. I better not screw this marriage up. Not that I expect to, as she is soooooo much better than my ex wife, or anyone else I dated.

I'm 47 and can definitely identify with you. I honestly felt a significant dropoff in my mid 40's. I get wore out much easier. I go to bed a little earlier these days and sleep just a little longer. I recently had to bump up the prescription on my glasses. I'm near sighted so he actually recommended with the stronger prescription I get bifocals now. I didn't do it but now I have noticed when I read labels at the grocery store I need to pull them away from my face and get the right distance to be able to read them lol.

I woke up with a sore neck the other week and it was seriously messed up for like a week where I couldn't even turn my head. It took me all of 2 to 3 weeks to get back to 100%. I definitely gain weight much easier these days if I'm not careful. Oh and I randomly have an "encapsulated shoulder" and can't hardly move my right shoulder into certain positions. Getting old sucks.

The only thing I can say is I still have a very full head of hair and massive beard and it is still very much full of color too and hasn't gone gray or white yet. So from that aspect it is the same as in my youth.

But for sure I identify with a lot of what you type. 47 is a world of difference from 37. That is for sure.

Feel ya, man

The hair isn't too noticeable if not inspecting closely from above, but it is thinning fast. During my crazy in-between marriage years, so many women complimented my hair, so it feels like I am losing my identity. Tis alright though, I found a good hat:

Cant seem to get it up anymore and my drive is non existent. Wife requires her friend Bob now.

The last few months Ive had no desire to work out and cancel on my trainer regularly.

Lost my job during the pandemic and now I have almost 0 desire to find a new one.

bladder has shrunk over the past several years.

Sorry, man. You tried pills? I will admit to having used them a few years ago because of anxiety induced ED

Are there medications (besides viagra lel) that can help? Maybe counseling? Ive never been 47 before so I wouldnt know your perspective, though Ive been on SSRIs so long that their supposed diminishment of libido has become my norm and I dont remember what it was like before.

Oh, I'm fine. It is just that she is 31 and has a much higher libido. I don't even need pills anymore, but I am fine with every couple days. Just can't keep up!

This isn't the turn I expected this topic to take. I was mainly being self deprecating :)

You're getting older, but you're also not watching what you eat and not exercising enough. Maybe you are more stressed.

I am trying to exercise. I have been an avid runner for a long time. Fucking knee though.

I could certainly eat better. Made some changes but not enough.

Not really too stressed about anything in particular but I have generalized anxiety. My wife actually alleviates it some.

I mean thats a legitimate topic to be communicative (with her) about. Peoples sexual needs rarely match up perfectly.

We have. She is exceedingly understanding and not at all upset but I still feel bad. It's like, I'd be fine with 3x a week, she wants like 7x, and we do like 5x. Compromise!

Probably TMI now

A few years ago my wife and I went 10 times in 3 days while we were staying at a casino. Talk about exhausting.

there's lots of treatments that will halt any further loss, and potentially regrow what you've lost if it's relatively recent (especially crown loss, hairline is a bit iffier). some of them are topical, some a daily pill. finasteride and dutasteride. i've been on one or the other for ~20 years and have never had any side effects and still have a full head of hair.

The daily pill ones scare me because of potential side effects, and I have seen reports that the topical ones can be very harmful or even deadly to cats.

It's okay. She doesn't care if I lose my hair. She says it will just cut down on other women going after me lol

yeah i hated the topical stuff. feels awful in your hair. i take the pill. not sure of the prevalence of side effects b/c i never had any, but there are some serious ones. iirc the only permanent one is the potential for gynecomastia. all others should subside after cessation, should you ever consider taking it.

Meh. Just woke up. About 7 hours. I probably could use a little more but not much. I just get up early now because old.

I truly am happy overall and while I am annoyed at the things I complained about, this is also all very self deprecating.

Maybe I will. I only want to lose like 5 to 10 though. I mainly just want to stay in shape and build a little more muscle.

Time for coffee and to finally finish Clone Wars while the kids and wife are asleep.

I would be happy even going back to at least 1x/week.

Anything but the 1x/month hellscape that is my long-term current reality.

Sounds like she completely understands and is totally fine with the frequency. Youre all good, dude. No reason to feel bad.

Man, I would have been happy with 1x a month toward the end of my first marriage. That truly was a hellscape.

Are you not happy with your relationship? Has there been communication?
