I think it was John Oliver that did a segment on it, plastic almost never gets used to make something. It's best hope is the lining in a rug.
Where have all the flowers gone...
Years ago there was a study and they found the only material that is cheaper to recycle then trash is aluminum cans...
Everything else costs more to recycle than trash...
so recycle cans but dont bother with anything else...
You dump your plastics?Jesus!!! They BURN plastic?! For HEAT?!?!?!
Sweden recycles ~10% of it, then burn the rest for heat.
Steel, copper, silver, gold, titanium, rare earth elements, etc are all far cheaper to recycle. It's also not a matter or it being cheaper, but it being (allegedly) better for the environment.
It's just to make people feel better
The recycling of metals and glass is legitimate. It may even one day soon be absolutely necessary.
Everything else is either not possible (plastics) or harms the environment more than it helps it (paper).
Jesus!!! They BURN plastic?! For HEAT?!?!?!Yeah, high chimneys.
Isnt that highly toxic?
Japan kind of does it right. We have special days of the week where we throw out certain things. Monday is plastics only. Tuesday and friday are burnables. Wednesday is bottles. Once or twice a month we have a day for misc items, like vacuums etc.The Netherlands does this too, but its what happens after thats the scam. Trash and recycling companies cannot deal with the way stuff is separated and even say to just throw everything in the trash so they can recycle stuff themselves. Local governments forced the separated recycling issue though. The bags with recyclables just go straight to landfills or are illegally shipped to China or Thailand in containers hidden between others.
If you tried this in the US, people would cry about their freedom to throw out their pants on thursday or something.

The point of recycling isnt to save money though (although many local city governments would disagree).
