There is a roundabout that confuses me and makes me nervous when approaching. I got honked at last night while on it.

The first pic shows the markings on the road. It's simple enough, it indicates that the right lane is only used for going straight. If you want to exit to the left of that you use the right lane.

However, the second pic shows where I would be entering (green) and exiting (red) the roundabout. If I enter in the left lane as directed, I would have to cross a lane of the roundabout to exit where the red mark is. It I enter in the right lane, the lane continues all the way to where I am exiting and seems to be safer and make more sense.

I did that yesterday and got aggressively honked at, which I get that I didn't follow the signage.

Is this a normal design for a roundabout? There aren't many in my area, so I'm trying to figure this out and do better for the future.

I'm studying these pictures and see the issue more clearly now. Both lanes can exit straight and therefore, not exiting in the right lane impedes the left lane exiters. I still don't think the design is very good though

If youre entering in the green and exiting in the red, and youre entering in the right lane, it looks like you were in the right. People dont pay attention and convince themselves that they always have the right of way, so sometimes they honk at you when they mess up and youre fine.
Roundabouts with multiple lanes are a pain.

I probably would have stayed in the right lane as well. Was it someone entering the roundabout that honked or someone already in it?

We entered together. They were in left lane and I was in the right. They honked when I didn't exit

The white dots on the road are yield signs. The turn signs are if you are staying on roundabout.

Thanks, I'm just really questioning it due to the directions on the lanes before the roundabout

Okay so, from your starting point, both the left and the right lane can go straight, so it makes sense that you were honked at for trying to go left from the right lane. If a car to your left was going straight while you're going left, that could cause an accident. So yeah, don't do that.

What a cluster... Okay thanks for confirming. I hate the idea of trying to exit while crossing a lane of traffic. Afraid it will be hard to see if someone is back there

Why they make it like this wtf
You can't go back and change the beginning, but you can start where you are and change the ending.

It seemed like you were in the right until i saw that DOT pic, that's a tricky roundabout for sure
I agree, multi lanes seem dangerous or at least force the right lane to run out at the place it should be exiting

All you have to do is shift into the right lane where the first exit is. Then you wont be in the left lane anymore and you wont have to cut anyone off when exiting. And you cant cut anyone off by shifting because the right lane traffic is all going straight out of the exit.

Multi lane roundabouts are kind of a nightmare, but hopefully you at least know how this one works now.

Assuming that other drivers are competent and able to follow instructions, while not always correct, is usually a pretty necessary part of driving.

Edit: I have drawn you a crude diagram in case you are still unsure of how to navigate this particular roundabout (the X is the spot where you will shift to the outside lane)

correct. the 'green' lane you enter from _must_ exit at the first opportunity. since you want to exit at the red, you need to enter on the inside lane.

roundabouts are objectively superior to 4-way stops. and are superior to most traffic lights.
I hope something good happens to you today

The pic shared above says to stay in your lane though. I take that to mean that I wouldn't actually want to change lanes

Anyway, moral of the story is to use left lane and wait for a safe time to exit the roundabout...or just go the other way that I know that bypasses this roundabout lol

I feel like entering from the right is the only way to exit where you want without changing lanes.

It's an interesting study and a shitty layout
