No.

In that last topic, I said that as far as I knew all republican laws that were being pushed around trans issues were targeted for children (under 18), somebody brought me the attention of one that could impact people up to age 26 (iirc). I admitted I was incorrect and altered my perspective accordingly.

When was the last time you admitted you were mistaken?

But that's still an *objectively* bad, and horrendously reductive take anyway.

i am functionally ignorant as to how the algorith works. all i know is, i watch a million chess videos in a row, it suggests more chess videos. watch 1 political yt and half the feed is now politics. watch 2 and it's all politics

i take this to mean that the algorithm encourages "hot button" engagement over what i have shown for year to really be interested in

It can get confused sometimes:

  1. I didn't say that I was fine with the laws targeting children.
  2. This is a summary of a specific claim that came up in that topic, it is not a comprehensive representation of everything that was discussed in that topic.

All I found plastered on his Twitter feed after a bit of scrolling is "social media and cell phone bad"

Not exactly the most groundbreaking additions to public discourse
Thats been his thing lately. The Coddling of the American Mind was good. Im reading through The Righteous Mind right now and its promising. Im not too deep into it yet but I know from what Ive read so far hell be presenting some ideas contrary to my own. Unlike the rest of this board which would rather spend no time in any sort of self-challenging contemplation (see previous poster who openly and proudly declared no engagement with the authors written and most serious material), Im looking forward to it.

He's the anti-gunpla. Where gunpla is abrasive joe "backs off" from attachment. Where gunpla is willing to go to bat for people in need of help joe is willing to go to bat for the Wyoming Republicans. Gunpla did things to make a point, joe does things to fuel narcissism.

Are you saying that Joe is an anarcho-syndicalist? Or that self-professed "Enlightened Centrist" Haidt is?

Edit: Or is it about the "the wokes are ruining everything!" youtube channel hosting the video?

No, I thought the other poster was calling me, an anarcho-syndicalist, a known right-wing shitposter for my comments about Haidts books. If thats not the case, then my bad.

Ah, I was the one misunderstanding things. For some reason I thought their post was something like #3 (or something really early as a response to the OP video) not as a response to your post specifically.

Dont know why an anarcho-syndicalist would be actively defending Enlightened Centrism personified.

lmao

Lacking interest in reading Haidt doesn't mean I lack a desire to engage in self challenging contemplation

I've done plenty over the years, it (and the unceasing help of friends that saw the path I was on) brought me out of being a racist tool of what would now be considered the alt-right

I'll admit I haven't actively engaged with Haidt since my freshman year of college in like 2009 or whatever, but have no real desire to

Engaging with academic writing and theory is intense work and honestly I don't have the energy for it in my current life situation. Working through debt and ever more precarious financial situations is a drain on my mental health (which is not great even without this shit. Depression and brain fog etc)

Any time I would spend on 'serious thought' is really replaced with shit that even temporarily makes me feel something somewhat positive

So I'll apologize for being antagonistic, no reason to have done so, but yeah I'm probably not going to desire engaging with Haidt anytime soon in any serious capacity

And if I do find myself better off enough to do serious theory reading I have Marx and other leftist theory to actually engage seriously first

Totally understand and relate very strongly. It takes Herculean effort to read (or do) anything worth a damn. Hope shit gets better for you soon.

I dont know if youre able to see a doctor, but I recently started on ADD medicine, and its been a significant boon to overcoming that brain fog that makes lifes waters so difficult to navigate.

I would not consider pop-sci book with political leanings as academic literature, or self-challenging (in fact, they are usually meant to be as unchallenging as possible).

There you have it folks. This is his idea of a concession. "Oh man I was off by 8. This changes absolutely nothing about how I feel but I acknowledge I was off by 8."
