'Cause you know that I have no fear, ain't gonna walk into the river and disappear. I'm gonna be a powerful man. Red blood running down the broken sand.
Not a mistake, but definitely a bad decision.
If I recall they were being threatened by credit card companies so it was a good decision on their end
They did it anyway, and still haven't got Visa or Mastercard back, last I checked.

It's always weird to think about because, like, was VISA or MasterCard actually catching flak for that? I'm sure their income from PH was negligible but still, weird thing to do largely unprompted.

It killed the site

Yea they were. There were articles saying Visa and Mastercard support CP.
"We'll never see Day-Lewis and Kubrick, or Kurosawa and Eastwood, but we have seen Bale and Nolan, a cinematic dream pairing come to life!"
I guess it depends on how you measure kids and other people being exploited against a corporation making slightly less money.

Being any part of CP, even indirectly, would probably open up Visa & MC to RICO smackdown disaster.
I don't have an issue with their goal, but the execution was brutal

What pisses me off the most is how, if you go to an old link, it says "this video has been flagged for review" -- which very strongly implies that they might actually come back

we all know that aint happening. so just say it was deleted.

Well, I know I lost interest.

The kinds of flak they get is invisible. Fraud is insane with porn purchases and that's just the legal kind. We don't see it but they're fighting it in court all the time. If it was harder for people to call their bank and say "No I definitely did not buy Anus Annihilator 27 please charge back" then maybe PH wouldn't have had this problem.
It says right here in Matthew 16:4 "Jesus doth not need a giant Mecha."

This site bans people from saying porn site names. Despite the average age being early 30s at this point lol.

I wonder what the viability would be of a "MasturbatorCard" credit card...
It was a monumentally bad decision. They didn't want to be bothered with actually monitoring what's uploaded to their site and instead went full scorched earth. They deleted nearly 80% of the content that was there, so now it's a shell of it's former self.

You have to be a "partner business" or "verified model" to upload anything now, so all that's getting uploaded anymore is chopped up paysite and OF spam.
No, I think going scorched earth in an attempt to get rid of all the revenge porn/child porn was a commendable decision, even though I know it was ultimately made for financial and not ethical reasons.

"Verified", which meant submitting a scan of your ID.
The people who would turn the TV up WAY TOO LOUD and film themselves sloppily fucking in terrible lighting, are not going to do that.
Hell yeah it was a terrible decision lol. They deleted 80% of their content from 14 million to like 3 million videos. The catalyst was that article saying there was CP on the site but an investigation showed there was only like 100 videos that had it, compared to like millions on Facebook. So they essentially were lazy as fuck and nuked 11 million videos for .00001% of bad videos instead just going through abuse reports like a normal site.

They burned the Library of Alexandra >_> I still haven't seen a ton of videos on any other site. Lost forever in the sands of time : (

Weren't they also dealing with issues regarding too much revenge porn being posted on their site?

They deleted videos where they couldnt confirm that the actors were of age and consenting right?
No, they deleted every account that didn't go through their verification process (which was over 10 million videos). It was an all or nothing approach.

And as has been said, a lot of the remaining videos are 1-3 minute videos that say "full video on my OF"

Getting "verified" on PH is roughly the same process as OF, so you may as well make some money out of it. PH itself pays its "models" terribly (if at all), which only drives more PH uploaders to OF.

Really, all PH is good for anymore is lurking the blog comments for the sheer schadenfreude.
Seems like a conservative approach is right for a streaming service that accepts uploads. Otherwise it'll very likely just be a giant repo for revenge porn and cp with plausible deniability.
=E[(x-E[x])(y-E[y])]
Yeah it sucks that the entire site is literally just teasers for OF content now. There's no good amateur videos on the site anymore. Remember when the site used to be cool and had fun April Fools jokes and did funny statistics or did charities and such? lol

Which is a viable business model under the "safe harbor" concept.

If you're "here's a video board, go nuts", all you're obligated to do is take down videos when someone complains. Once you start selling "premium" access and paying uploaders, your culpability increases substantially.
"Moderation" is pretty much either an all-or-nothing under section 230. Reactive or proactive, with nothing in between.

it was obviously a good decision. And anyone complaining that they cant jerk it to people who may not even know their porn is online(or was recorded in the first place) is pretty sus

My favorite old video on PH was this 50 minute video of this Chinese couple fucking and it was awesome >_> I literally cant find the entire video on any other site and it saddens me. The best I found was this 10 minute cut of it but it isnt even the good part smh.

Because, Visa and Mastercard bailed out of fear of legal liability , and forced PH's hand, which then forced all the fappers' hands.

The question wasn't "why did this happen?" but "was this a bad thing?"

I mean I guarantee ethical considerations were not why PH made their decisions. They wanted to legally cover their ass.

The value of a decision does not need to be calculated in reference to the agent who made it.

This topic was literally created by TC to ask what CE thought about this, ethically.

Lots of revenge porn and spycams helped lead to their content and verification changes. It wasn't all just kiddie porn.

In the grand scheme, they were attempting to clean up a lot of unsavory videos hosted on their site, which is a good thing, but they got rid of pretty much all of the videos i had bookmarked so...maybe?

They were never my site of choice, but it did seem to have echoes across multiple sites. The site that was my default did away with the download button around the same time. Think you still can if you are a verified user or something, but just having an account wasn't good enough anymore.
The ball is round, the game lasts 90 minutes. That's fact.
Everything else, is theory.

The usual harbinger of doom is when the tubesite starts gluing a vanity-card intro onto uploads.
It's all downhill for there.
