They did it anyway, and still haven't got Visa or Mastercard back, last I checked.
It's always weird to think about because, like, was VISA or MasterCard actually catching flak for that?Lawyers, probably.

Yea they were. There were articles saying Visa and Mastercard support CP.Being any part of CP, even indirectly, would probably open up Visa & MC to RICO smackdown disaster.
It's always weird to think about because, like, was VISA or MasterCard actually catching flak for that? I'm sure their income from PH was negligible but still, weird thing to do largely unprompted.
PH ?
Chemistry youtube?
I don't remember what the deletion criteria even was."Verified", which meant submitting a scan of your ID.
Hell yeah it was a terrible decision lol. They deleted 80% of their content from 14 million to like 3 million videos. The catalyst was that article saying there was CP on the site but an investigation showed there was only like 100 videos that had it, compared to like millions on Facebook. So they essentially were lazy as fuck and nuked 11 million videos for .00001% of bad videos instead just going through abuse reports like a normal site.Weren't they also dealing with issues regarding too much revenge porn being posted on their site?
They burned the Library of Alexandra >_> I still haven't seen a ton of videos on any other site. Lost forever in the sands of time : (
The kinds of flak they get is invisible. Fraud is insane with porn purchases and that's just the legal kind. We don't see it but they're fighting it in court all the time. If it was harder for people to call their bank and say "No I definitely did not buy Anus Annihilator 27 please charge back" then maybe PH wouldn't have had this problem. That's a pretty interesting take.
They deleted videos where they couldnt confirm that the actors were of age and consenting right? No, they deleted every account that didn't go through their verification process (which was over 10 million videos). It was an all or nothing approach.
And as has been said, a lot of the remaining videos are 1-3 minute videos that say "full video on my OF"Getting "verified" on PH is roughly the same process as OF, so you may as well make some money out of it. PH itself pays its "models" terribly (if at all), which only drives more PH uploaders to OF.
Seems like a conservative approach is right for a streaming service that accepts uploads. Otherwise it'll very likely just be a giant repo for revenge porn and cp with plausible deniability.Which is a viable business model under the "safe harbor" concept.
Which is a viable business model under the "safe harbor" concept.
If you're "here's a video board, go nuts", all you're obligated to do is take down videos when someone complains. Once you start selling "premium" access and paying uploaders, your culpability increases substantially.
"Moderation" is pretty much either an all-or-nothing under section 230. Reactive or proactive, with nothing in between.
I'm not really talking about the law here. Don't really care what the law states.Nobody goes to prison for ethics violations.
Nobody goes to prison for ethics violations.
Again, not talking about the law. Why are you obsessing over this?...are you serious?
...are you serious?
Yes, why do you think the law is what is being discussed here?Because, Visa and Mastercard bailed out of fear of legal liability , and forced PH's hand, which then forced all the fappers' hands.

Again, not talking about the law. Why are you obsessing over this?I mean I guarantee ethical considerations were not why PH made their decisions. They wanted to legally cover their ass.

I havent heard anything of that sorthttps://nypost.com/2021/06/17/lawsuit-bashes -pornhub-for-profiting-off-unconsented-sex/
The value of a decision does not need to be calculated in reference to the agent who made it.
This topic was literally created by TC to ask what CE thought about this, ethically.
They were never my site of choice, but it did seem to have echoes across multiple sites. The site that was my default did away with the download button around the same time. The usual harbinger of doom is when the tubesite starts gluing a vanity-card intro onto uploads.
