I've been binging It's Always Sunny on Disney+ the past few weeks as I never had the chance to watch it before.
Currently up to season 13 episode 10 "Mac Finds His Pride" and there's something that's been bugging me for a while now....the side characters like Cricket, The Waitress and a few others.
It's almost certainly due to me binging it instead of watching it over a period of 13 years, but I feel like the joke got old with some of them, especially the 2 mentioned. It's basically the same joke repeated throughout the seasons. And they get a ton of screentime compared to others like Mrs Mac, the waiter, Maureen, even the disgusting incest family I can't recall the last name of barely appeared during the later seasons. I loved how Maureen actually went from "dead tooth" to "crazy ex" to "is a cat" to the character being retired entirely. The joke evolved and then got shelved.

Having said that, overall awesome show. Fav moments so far are definitely Charlie on Santa's lap and Dee absolutely ruining Stripper Soldier Boy. As I was typing this post, Mac was coming out to his dad through dance and that shit was unexpectedly beautiful, wasn't expecting to get hit with genuine emotion there.

It happens.
To be a poor man is hard, but to be a poor race in a land of dollars is the very bottom of hardships.
W.E.B. Du Bois
Catherine Reitman who played Maureen went on to create/write/produce and star in her own show...plus have children. So she's probably a little too busy.
I don't believe in belts. There should be no ranking system for toughness.

I never gave a shit about ballet or the dozens of dance shows that come out yearly, but that scene made me feel things I was unprepared for. Mad props to McElhenney for the absolutely insane amount of effort he's willing to put in for his show.

One of the best episodes of recent years, hands down

you answered your own question there

shows like that were never written or created to be "binged". Give yourself a break and enjoy it. You don't buy a $400 bottle of wine and take it home and chug it.

Yeah, you're absolutely right. But I never felt like Scrubs, for instance, had that problem. Sure, Hooch is crazy, but they didn't do that joke for 8 seasons straight.

Probably one of the best episodes of television in general imo

Yes you do.
I love Hardcore Henry.
I could do without Cricket. He says something funny every once in awhile but Cricket centric episodes are usually the weakest imo, except for the one he was introduced in.

Exactly. The way Dee absolutely destroyed a good man was funny. The following hundred or so jokes of "isn't this homeless junkie disgusting and weird?" got old the 3rd or 4th appearance.
You're not wrong, but I suppose those two in particular might just be easier to use because one of them is married to Charlie Day and the other is one of the show's main writers.
Ah, yes, the Negotiator: General Kenobi

That does explain it. And def some interesting trivia.

I suspect it was better when there was a weak between each season.

Side characters can't be too one note though. How I Met Your Mother gets ripped a lot for various reasons, but part of the reason the show is so great is largely due to their recurring side characters and how they are both memorable and sparsely used. Marshall's dad, Randy Wharmpess, Ranjit (admittedly whose bit gets stale like TC mentions but it's usually literally one line he says), Arthur Hobbes, Lilly's dad, James Stinson...

Not only are they great, but they're sparingly used and they're usually involved in differing story scenarios so we see them behaving differently (again with the exception of Ranjit), rather than someone like Cricket who is just a degenerate doing what the gang says, or Charlie fucking with the Waitress. They're slight variants of the same story.

HIMYM is another show I never watched and binged a few years back. Funny enough it's the reverse where the main cast gets grating at times, yet one off characters like Blah Blah steal the show.

It is in Europe due to all the Fox and Starz stuff being added for us.

I agree lilly and ted are grating because they're just awful people. But I never got sick of Barney and Marshall - they have such an elite bromance that it far surpasses ted's bromance with either of them.

you outta watch the bloopers. Jason and NPH literally make out a bit in what I think was season 1's bloopers
