I finished TNG the other day and then watched Generations and holy crap! I thought Generations was SO good. It's exactly what I wanted from a TNG movie. TNG but with a bigger budget!

it's good, but it has some issues. the plotholes are possible to overlook, but if you can't they really hurt the story. the way they destroy the -D is generally hated. Kirk feels like a pretty wasted opportunity.

personally, i feel the same way about Insurrection -- it felt like a good, long episode instead of the blockbuster movie like 8 and 10.

Boom! That's right, this is all happening! You cannot change the channel now!

The success of TNG and VOY was at least partly because most episodes were self-contained and centered around whatever phenomenon of the week the crew got caught up in. It was easy for the casual viewer to get pulled in because there wasn't a lot of backstory or catching up to do.

DS9 focused on developing more involved story arcs that spanned multiple seasons, namely the Alpha Quadrant going to war with the Dominion. If you tried to watch DS9 after it was already 4 or 5 seasons in, you would be understandably lost.
Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away.
^ Disregard that. Somehow I thought TC was talking about DS9.

Have you seen the red letter media review?

It says right here in Matthew 16:4 "Jesus doth not need a giant Mecha."

I loved generations when I first saw it in like 99. It got me into the star trek movies. After watching all the movies up to insurrection (newest at the time) it was still great, but not the best.
Jerry, it's Frank Costanza!!! Mr Steinbrenner's here George is dead - call me back!!!!
I liked it.
Wake up. You have to wake up. *currently a preta/hungry ghost*
Dai Grepher: I was wrong. My entire theory is incorrect. Zero Mission IS a remake of Metroid.

The sequence or the fact that it happened at all? Because the actual sequence is fucking awesome. I was sad to see it happen but it doesn't bother me.

I mean, maybe? His contribution worked perfectly for me. He was great.

I just finished the episode of DS9 where Kira has to forcibly remove that guy from a Bajoran moon and feeling super conflicted. I've got to say, as much as I love the characters of TNG, nearly everyone in DS9 has had more character development in a couple handfuls of episodes compared to come characters on TNG with 7 seasons behind them. I thought I wouldn't be as interested in DS9 because parking lot in space, ship no go vroom around galaxy. But it's been great so far.

I've been watching all the movies and if I had to show someone new a Star Trek movie, it'd be this one. I think it's my favorite so far, behind Voyage Home. Maybe I'm just riding the TNG wave, idk.

The only good TNG movie is First Contact

The problem is that it's just a checklist of what the franchise needed to do.

* Need Kirk - check
* Need to have Kirk pass the torch - check
* Need to reveal Kirk's fate - check
* Need to tie up loose TNG threads like the emotion chip - check
* Need to get rid of the TV enterprise in favor of a movie enterprise - check
It's just a giant To Do List with dialog written around it. But sadly, it is the second best TNG film.
I'm just-- what are expecting here? None of the Star Trek movies are that good.
