Should museums remove art that sexualizes women?

Hell no. Art isn't politically correct sometimes. Also our constitution was designed so things like this are protected from public scrutiny.
My dream has finally come true. I own a SNES Classic.
I like Gardevoir, just not in that way.
Art sexualizes both men and women a lot (for men look at paintings of St. Sebastian). If museums remove it theyll just have to sell it into private collections where nobody can see it, I mean, if they seriously never plan on showing it again.
I am I - you are you. These are irrefutable truths. Possibly.
No. It's okay to sexualize Women and celebrate their form.
Well...
That article is referring to a very specific painting. You can see it in the article. It's a bit disturbing. Creepy, even. Not surprised the artist is French, if you catch my drift.

Yeah, get that painting out. At least for a while.

Should artworks similar in content or intent be removed?

Yeah, a very specific painting that is just the tip of the iceberg. Mind you, this painting doesnt even have nudity, which still would of course never justify taking a painting down.

No, but art museums should also base their exhibits off of what people are interested in and listen to popular opinion, since most art has no intrinsic value beyond what the public thinks of it.
Okay, let's be intellectually honest. This article is about one painting of a little girl.
it's like women don't know what art even is. you can't just remove it from sight because it hurts your fee-fees. every image is a major part of human history. next, they'll want to take down Mona Lisa for some stupid reason.

No. You can't censor history, just contextualize it. Banning art because of a sexual depiction of women can eventually lead to covering up the Holocaust so you don't offend Iran. Slippery slope.

This. What the fuck is this world coming to? Let's just erase history, burn art, and start all over with a civilization that offends no one that will take infinite time to create because it's impossible to please humanity 100% unanimously.

This whole line of thought makes me think of how I saw a recent article which compared SJWs to moralists in the Victorian era.

No. Just no.

Yeah, I was about to go on a rant against SJWs and their over sensitivity....and then I saw the painting.

It has a strong pedophiliac vibe.

So you saw your own sensitivity and realized you're about the same thing as SJWs. Good self awareness.

No its a disgusting piece of work, devoid of artistic merit. It is inappropriate for children to see and will attract a bad element to the museum. The public shouldn't be supporting pedophiliac fantasies. Let a private gallery have it if they want.

It's not pornography if it is in a museum.
Holy crap.

I feel dirty for even seeing that.

No need to be so modest. You don't need to take back you realizing you're behaving exactly like an SJW and seeing things that aren't there.

the upskirt is a tad unneeded but I didn't really get anything "sexual" out of that painting. it just to me seemed to portray a girl who gave no fucks about being a "proper lady" i'n how she sat. or perhaps she was by herself as to why she felt fine sitting like that. look on her face says to me though "no fucks given"

Not the way TC put it, but in cases like this where a painting showcases a clearly underage girl being portrayed in an obviously sexualized manner and was painted by a man who literally had a history of attraction to minors, uhhh, yeah. The painting itself is trash anyways.

Feminists and social justice warriors are the new religious right of 2017, bullying moral-busybodies. Yet another reaffirmation these people deserve to be ridiculed.

The painting has nothing to do with the "current climate around sexual assault".

See, all it takes is a few seconds of clear rationality to see this for what it truly is, utter nonsense.

Ultimately, its a small ask in consideration of how expansive their art collection is how overtly sexual the painting is, and the current news headlines highlighting a macro issue about the public health and safety of women.

Fun fact: France doesn't have an age of consent law; due to an oversight they claim. But, they're in the process of setting one up after a few high profile cases with creepy French men having sex with girls as young as 11. Right now so long as the creepers can suggest that the girls didn't object in the moment there isn't a criminal case under French law.

Still, one has to be quite careful about where they draw the line on art, because nude female form makes up a lot of classical art and it wouldn't be the least bit surprising for some SJW types to call for wider censorship and removal of 'symbols of the toxic patriarchy'.
