Some posts I've seen recently basically compare Christopher Columbus' accomplishments to one hopping into their Prius or hipster junker and discovering some new trendy bar that offers espresso shots served in syringes and then telling all of their friends what a discovery was made.

but that's more or less what happened, it's not like civilization didn't exist in the Americas before Europeans showed up
Why is mass colonization of the Americas a good thing that deserves praise?

No, not really. Christopher Columbus worked his butt off in horrendous, dangerous conditions and for many, many years.. and without the technology we are privileged with today.

Do you believe you would exist as a person if it weren't for colonization of the Americas?
He's officially lost it lol.
No one hates Columbus simply because he landed on San Salvador. It was everything he was personally involved in after that makes him a terrible person to commemorate.

Other person: the Vikings. They made it to North America first.

Also, the thing is that this isn't even looking at 1492 and later through a modern day glass; there were people back then who thought Columbus was ruthless, like Bartolomeo De Las Casas.
No really.

The question isn't about "ruthlessness" or any other accusation. The question is very, very simple.
I've been through a few topics on CE that claim Columbus isn't responsible for **** and didn't accomplish ****.
So I want to hear some actual facts in this topic that back those sentiments up, if one believes Columbus didn't do anything productive----who did---who is responsible--- how--- and why---- Very simple.
Six votes for "other" and ZERO explanation.
This topic has a very simple premise. It's not hard guys, come on.

Capn Clown is having a meltdown because he can't register the fact Columbus was a gigantic piece of shit even in his own time period.

I'm not having anything. The only thing I see is a bunch of votes for "other" that offer no explanation to the very simple topic title premise.
Very telling.

Nazi scientists are part of the reason NASA even exists, but that doesn't make their war crimes less abhorrent.

do you believe every demographic in America should feel the same about Christopher Columbus? when you make topics like this, do you consider those other people or is that overshadowed by manifest destiny?
Nearly one-third of Native American genes come from west Eurasian people linked to the Middle East and Europe, rather than entirely from East Asians as previously thought, according to a newly sequenced genome.

What does feelings have to do with a very simple question? You can say Christopher Columbus was "a bad person" but clearly no one can say he didn't play a major role in discovering the Americas and contributing to mass European colonization.
It's pretty sad what's going on ITT and it's sad people are blatantly ignoring facts with no alternative explanation. Everyone viewing this topic knows it, too.
It took such a simple question to reveal the truth leftists have been denying in other topics the past several hours.

Because you wouldve never been born in the country your ancestors came from? Im not sure "i was born in America" justifies what was done to the natives

I concede that Columbus played a major role of winter coming to America. not that I'm on record for saying otherwise.
I'm just trying to figure out why you're coming off as if he should be praised.
