I remember if there was plain barrel it meant there was a bonus room nearby.

One bonus level you had to open with a DK barrel and I couldn't figure it out for the longest time.

Not the first one (mainly because there's no real incentive to), but I got 102% in 2 and 103% in 3 without one.
