I thought we were over this?

Nope.
I'm still getting the video experiencing difficulties thing.
Which is a big mistake by Google. They think by having the video just be black darkness during the ad break that I will turn back on ads. But I like the silence. I just let it play out every time.

it's an arms race that youtube starts again whenever they feel like it to try to piss people into buying youtube premium

ublock will be working again within a few hours after a browser reset and purge of the filter cache. I was getting ads the other day but am not any more, so I'd guess it's fixed

I never got those because if you activate enough filters in uBlock Origin, those warnings themselves are blocked as ads lol

Apparently ad blockers are actually the root of the most recent catastrophe involving view counts and user view tracking. Everyone assumed it was age verification and restricted mode AI-related because it started happening around the exact same time they started rolling those terrible ideas out, but people have started figured out it's apparently keyed to them changing how the site registers views, which apparently makes people using ad blockers invisible to YouTube.

Just another excuse for them to get pissy about ad blocking.

he really thinks that it's ad blockers when that's just not how it works

po if the video shows up in watch history, then the website has counted you as a view

and anything you watch with an ad blocker will show up in watch history

I was getting ads, updated my browser and it thankfully went back to blocking

I have literally no clue what that means.

I did say "apparently". I freely admit I have no idea how any of it works. And most of the time I don't really care. I don't even use an adblocker so it wouldn't apply to me regardless.

I was mainly basing it on this. The logic seems fairly sound:

that's the point, they've changed how they count viewership of adblocked videos, there wasn't actually any change in viewership. monetization remained the same and only PC viewership was affected

it was scary to creators because they thought they'd fucked up somehow so it became a big deal, but it was just a change in how youtube presents data. and it coincided with a change in how youtube blocked adblock plus, so it might have just been unintentional

By my cursory understanding, it wasn't that Youtube changed anything about how they count views, it was that they changed how they used the domain that counts views such that it needs to be blocked to block ads, which is why that domain was added to uBlock Lite's default block list.

Thus, because YouTube cannot fight ad blockers, they changed it so that using one doesn't count as a view on someone's video, so the new goal is to get the content creators you watch to get you to not use one.

It also will not work.

The silly thing about it all is that adblockers would be near-powerless if Youtube just hosted the ads themselves such that there weren't any extra domains to block. But that would mean Youtube would actually have to be accountable for the contents and any harms caused by those ads, and avoiding that is worth more than any anti-adblock campaign could ever be.
