Bonus points where the "high taxes" thing is often parroted by people who live in suburbs and therefore have their low tax rate overwhelmingly subsidized by those higher taxes in the city core. Most single-family suburban homes in America are tax-negative when you factor in all of the other infrastructure costs involved in servicing those neighbourhoods, and while I can understand preferring to pay less property tax than more (because who doesn't?), it's pretty short-sighted to gripe about cities' high taxes when they're literally the only reason they have a road at the end of their driveway.
