I think it's only weird because the holiday is dominated by the idea of only celebrating couples. It's weird to me that single people are just supposed to accept that exclusion. Single people are just as valid. The holiday itself is just like every other capitalist holiday, meaning go out and spend your money on mediocre service.

You can celebrate whatever you want however you want, so long as you aren't hurting anyone (or expressing an intent to do so). Just don't necessarily expect other people to celebrate with you or understand why you're celebrating if you aren't following some sort of established social norm.
