Do you mean re-gifting? *Someone gave me this last year, I never opened it and it's still in the box, I'll give it to someone else*

Or do you mean giving someone something you've used?

Buying something used

In the spirit of gift-giving, it's not really any different from buying something new.

I think it depends on the condition of the gift and on the person. For example, I don't mind receiving second hand gifts.

That's fair game, then (presuming, as you say, that it's clean and in good condition). There's really no reason for somebody to feel it isn't unless they're the sort of person that demands a certain amount be spent on their gifts, and that's just not a sort of person you should bother exchanging gifts with.

Depends a lot on what it is. Antiques, or things that are rare or out of print like books or records, those are things that some people would love to get as gifts. Collectable cards (baseball, Pokemon, MtG, etc), old firearms, maybe some kinds of vintage clothing, I'm sure certain people would love those.

I know someone who was tickled pink when I gave him some old reel-to-reel tapes.

If it is like your used Cadillac, no, but otherwise it's kind of cheap. It depends on what it is

Someone gave me a bunch of gift cards to a place I've never been and would never go to and so I gifted them to someone else. I don't see the big deal. If it's something I can't make use of might as well give it to someone who can.

Got my brother a used Ratchet (from the Ratchet & Clank series) plush toy for a few dollars as part of his gift. It was used. It was cheap. He loves it. That last bit is what matters.
